HSBC in France is seeking a Valuation Controller to join the Valuations Analytics & Reporting team, focusing on Private Equity and Private Credit. The role supports fair value and prudent value methodologies, ensuring a strong control environment within the global product control framework.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement in Paris, with exposure to audit, regulators and cross-location collaboration across Krakow and Bangalore teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in valuation control for Private and Less-Liquid Markets.
  • IFRS knowledge in valuation control; French and/or German GAAP is a plus.
  • Ability to apply significant judgement on valuation adjustments within governance.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment across teams and locations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interaction with audit and regulators.

Responsabilités

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of valuation methodologies and models for Fair value and Prudent value for Private Equity and Private Credit exposures.
  • Operate a robust control environment, applying sound judgement on valuation adjustments to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure HBCE practices align with Group methodology, policies and governance, escalating issues with solutions.
  • Act as the HBCE SME for Private Markets valuation for extended production teams in Krakow and Bangalore.
  • Coordinate priorities, provide guidance, review drivers/outputs, and ensure timely issue resolution with audit trail.
  • Contribute to local and global change initiatives (tools, reporting, operating model improvements).
  • Support engagement with Internal Audit, external audit (PwC) and regulators (ECB) on valuation topics.

Being part of HSBC in France, you’ll help evolve and grow our business while strengthening the control environment that supports the accuracy of our financial statements. We’re looking for a Valuation Controller to join Valuations Analytics & Reporting (VAR) within Global Product Control (Controllership), with a focus on Private and Less-Liquid Markets.

What you will do:

You’ll support the methodology, oversight and reporting of Fair Value and Prudent Value (FVPV) for Private Equity and Private Credit instruments held on the balance sheet. The role is initially HBCE-focused and contributes to the global Private Markets valuation agenda, including standardisation and governance initiatives led by the global Private and Less-Liquid Markets valuation team.

In this role you will:
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of valuation methodologies and underlying models used to calculate Fair value and Prudent value for Private Equity and Private Credit exposures.
  • Operate a robust control environment, applying sound judgement on valuation adjustments to support the accuracy of fair-valued financial reporting.
  • Ensure HBCE practices align with Group methodology, policies and governance, escalating issues and proposing solutions through the functional line.
  • Act as the HBCE SME for Private Markets valuation, providing informal governance/oversight (no direct line management) to extended production teams in Krakow and Bangalore.
  • Coordinate priorities, provide guidance and challenge, review key drivers/outputs, and ensure timely issue resolution with a strong audit trail.
  • Contribute to local and global change initiatives (tools, reporting, operating model improvements), including remediation delivery and simplification/efficiency opportunities.
  • Support engagement with Internal Audit, external audit (PwC) and regulators (ECB) on valuation topics, providing clear analysis and documentation.
You should apply if you have:
  • Strong experience in valuation control / product control for Private and Less-Liquid Markets, with expertise in Private Equity and Private Credit.
  • Strong accounting knowledge with proven application of IFRS in a valuation control context (French and/or German GAAP is a plus).
  • The ability to apply significant judgement on valuation adjustments within a controlled governance framework.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment (local + functional reporting) and influencing outcomes across teams and locations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including interaction with audit and regulators.
  • Interest or experience in standardisation, simplification, tooling and reporting improvements (digital/automation exposure beneficial).
