Alta Ares in Toulouse is seeking a Structural Design & Analysis engineer to design and analyze composite airframe structures for defense interceptors. You will perform FEA and hand calculations, define load paths, and drive laminate design and joining strategies for carbon-fibre structures.

You will partner with Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Manufacturing to optimize weight, CG and vibration, while ensuring producibility from prototype to serial production.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in aerospace or aircraft structural engineering, ideally UAV/drone platforms.
  • Experience sizing airframe structures for aerodynamic, manoeuvre, propulsion, and inertial loads.
  • Proficiency in FEA for static strength, stiffness, buckling and vibration.
  • Strong CAD capability (CATIA, SolidWorks, Autodesk) and integration with components.
  • Experience with carbon fibre composite structures and laminate design.
  • Knowledge of polymer 3D printed components and load paths.
  • Ability to perform hand calculations and verify with FEA and test data.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration with Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Manufacturing teams.

Responsabilités

  • Design and analyze primary and secondary composite airframe structures.
  • Perform structural and stress analysis using hand calcs and FEA.
  • Define load paths, free-body diagrams, and failure modes.
  • Own laminate design, layup schedules, bonding/joining for carbon fiber.
  • Optimize structural weight while maintaining strength.
  • Coordinate with Aerodynamics and Propulsion to balance mass, CG, vibration.
  • Support airframe testing and validate with flight data.
  • Ensure manufacturability and transition to serial production.
  • Collaborate with Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Manufacturing teams.
