Job summary

Darwin Space is partnering with a specialist space-sector business to recruit a Turbomachinery Engineer to support advanced propulsion technology. You’ll lead the mechanical design and performance optimisation of turbomachinery, carry out CFD simulations, develop 3D CAD models and apply numerical modelling to evaluate operating conditions and efficiency.

The role offers ownership of design activities, collaboration with propulsion and integration teams, Python scripting to automate workflows,

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in the space sector is essential.
• Background in turbomachinery design & development (pumps, turbines or rotating machinery).
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics & mechanical performance.
• Experience with CFD tools and numerical simulation.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling of mechanical components.
• Knowledge of performance analysis and optimisation techniques.
• Experience using Python for engineering calculations, data processing or automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to mechanical design and development of turbomachinery components.
• Carry out CFD simulations to assess performance and support design optimisation.
• Develop 3D CAD models and refine designs based on analyses.
• Apply numerical modelling to evaluate operating conditions and efficiency.
• Use Python and other tools to streamline calculations and automate workflows.
• Analyse results, document findings, and recommend design improvements.
• Collaborate with propulsion and integration teams to meet system requirements.
• Support testing planning and execution, using data to validate simulations.
• Contribute to engineering methods and standards across the team.
