Job description

Staff Product Manager - E-Commerce Web Upper Funnel [Permanent - CDI] (f/m/d)

Location: Paris or Lille, France

Team: Decathlon E-Commerce Web - Scope Upper Funnel

About the Team

At the heart of Decathlon's global digital ecosystem, our E-Commerce Web team builds the online destination for millions of sports lovers worldwide. The Upper Funnel scope is the front door of our digital experience: from landing on the homepage and navigating categories, to discovering products via search, AI-driven recommendations, conversational shopping, retail media placements, and inspiring content. Our mission is to seamlessly guide users from inspiration to intent.

Joining this high-traffic Web Product organization means operating at massive scale where speed, discovery excellence, SEO, targeted monetization, and next-gen personalized user journeys drive our everyday business impact.

YOUR FUTURE CONTRIBUTION

As a Staff Product Manager - Upper Funnel, you will provide the strategic direction, functional architecture, and product leadership needed to scale and modernize the discovery and exploration experience across Decathlon's web platform. Operating with high autonomy, you will address complex challenges across search performance, catalog structuring, retail media integration, and emerging AI paradigm shifts like conversational interface models and agentic workflows.

Your mission centers on 4 strategic pillars:

  1. Strategic Alignment, Stakeholder Management & Upper Funnel Vision

    • Own the Holistic Discovery & Engagement Strategy: Define and drive the strategic vision for upper funnel web touchpoints (Homepage, Category/Listing Pages, Search Engine, Navigation Taxonomy, Retail Media Ad Placements, Conversational Assistants, and Inspiration Hubs).
    • Executive & Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with global business directors, commercial/merchandising leads, SEO specialists, retail media monetization teams, and AI platform engineering leads to align executive leadership around major web platform shifts and discovery roadmaps.
    • Macro Metrics & Funnel Performance: Track, measure, and optimize key upper funnel metrics across the customer journey: Organic/Direct Traffic, Search CTR, Category Depth, Conversational Engagement & Intent Resolution Rate, Ad Yield/eCPM, Bounce Rate, Product Detail Page (PDP) Click-through Rate, and Top-of-Funnel Conversion.
  2. Functional Architecture & Web Ecosystem Orchestration

    • Lead Functional Architect: Define boundary maps and functional scope across web squads (Search & Conversational Discovery, Taxonomy & Merchandising, Personalization/Recommendations, Retail Media & Sponsored Listings) to eliminate overlap and friction.
    • Tight Triad Collaboration: Work in close sync with Staff/Principal Web Engineers and Staff UX/UI Designers to align frontend performance (Core Web Vitals), modular web design systems, micro-frontend architecture, conversational UI patterns, and backend search/ad-serving APIs.
    • Seamless Omnichannel & Funnel Handoff: Ensure fluid transitions from external acquisition channels into the web upper funnel, balancing organic product discovery and agentic assistance with sponsored/retail media inventory while designing seamless handoffs toward the lower funnel (PDP, Cart & Checkout).
  3. Strategic Sparring & Product De-Risking

    • Trusted Strategic Advisor: Serve as a sparring partner for Group Product Managers (GPMs) and Product Managers (PMs) within the Web & E-Commerce domain, helping them navigate complex search algorithms, LLM agent architectures, ad server integrations, taxonomy dependencies, and high-volume web constraints.
    • De-Risking High-Stakes Initiatives: Formulate and execute validation strategies for high-risk discovery and monetization concepts (e.g., visual/voice search, conversational product advisors, agentic auto-replenishment/bundles, sponsored product placements).
    • Continuous Experimentation at Scale: Design and lead high-volume A/B and multivariate testing strategies, balancing conversational interaction models and ad impression density against organic conversion performance using CRO frameworks and Opportunity Solution Trees (OST).
  4. Elevating Product Craft & Modern Web Capabilities

    • AI-First, Agentic & Monetization Leadership: Champion the organizational adoption of cloud-native AI platforms (e.g., Google Vertex AI), conversational frameworks, agentic e-commerce patterns, and modern retail media capabilities to amplify both user experience and platform revenue.
    • Web Craft & Best Practices: Upskill the PM community in modern web product practices, continuous discovery frameworks, technical web performance optimization, and data-informed decision-making.
    • Community Multiplier: Elevate the overall bar of the Product Management organization as a thought leader without acting as a direct line manager.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • E-Commerce Web Scale (7+ years): Proven track record in Product Management with hands-on experience scaling high-traffic e-commerce web platforms (Upper Funnel, Search, Merchandising, or Navigation).
  • Upper Funnel & SEO Expertise: Deep understanding of top-of-funnel mechanics, technical SEO, site search algorithms, taxonomy design, and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
  • Data & Discovery Mastery: Strong expertise in web analytics (GA4/Amplitude/Contentsquare), high-traffic A/B testing frameworks, quantitative/qualitative user research, and Opportunity Solution Trees (OST).
  • Functional Architecture & Scoping: Ability to decompose complex e-commerce catalog, ad-tech, and AI/search problems into modular MVP/V0/V1 execution strategies.
  • Executive Storytelling & Alignment: Exceptional ability to translate complex search/agentic architectures, retail media revenue drivers, UX metrics, and conversion data into compelling narratives for executive stakeholders.
  • Key Pluses & Emerging Tech Strengths:
    • Google Vertex AI: Practical experience using Google Vertex AI (for Search, Recommendations, or custom ML/LLM model deployment) is a major plus.
    • Conversational & Agentic E-Commerce: Solid understanding or experience with conversational AI interfaces (chat/voice product advisors) and agentic commerce concepts (autonomous intent-matching, task-oriented AI agents) is a strong plus.
    • Retail Media & Monetization: Experience with Retail Media concepts and ad management (sponsored products, ad-server integrations, balancing yield vs. UX) is a major plus.
  • Soft Skills & Leadership: Strong strategic influence, ability to thrive in ambiguity, passion for cross-functional collaboration in Triad, and an empathetic approach to mentoring junior PMs.
WHAT WE OFFER YOU
  • Hybrid Work Model (Paris or Lille base) 2 days of remote work per week
  • Tailored Equipment (Mac or Windows, according to mission and sustainability commitments);
  • Global Exposure: Local project team within a global retail and digital network with international career opportunities;
  • Continuous Growth: Internal/external trainings, skill development programs, and conference attendance;
  • Comprehensive Compensation: Competitive salary package including employee stock ownership, profit-sharing, and monthly/quarterly performance bonuses.
