Overstory seeks a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and scaling of our data platform, handling massive satellite imagery and utility data through robust pipelines. You will own the platform architecture and steer its evolution with a focus on reliability, scalability, and observability.

You will collaborate with data, ML, and product teams, mentor engineers, and establish standards for pipeline design and data quality across Overstory, while embracing a remote-first, globally distributed

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience designing and building production-grade data pipelines and systems.
• Deep hands-on experience with Dagster — asset-based orchestration.
• Experience with large-scale production data pipelines and systems.
• Proven track record building and operating data pipelines at scale, with idempotency and partitioning.
• Experience with Google Cloud and Pub/Sub; familiarity with event-driven patterns.
• Strong Python skills and experience with BigQuery.
• Excellent communication and ability to collaborate across engineering, ML, and product.

Responsabilités

• Architect and evolve our orchestration layer — asset graphs, quality checks, partitioning strategies, and scaling patterns.
• Design and maintain production data pipelines for large-scale geospatial and temporal data from ingestion to delivery.
• Lead system design across the data platform, defining service boundaries and data contracts.
• Drive a service-oriented architecture, decoupling components for independent deployment.
• Build event-driven workflows with durable messaging patterns.
• Establish observability, testing, and data quality frameworks to ensure traceability.
• Mentor engineers and set data-system standards.
