Lever, Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for AI tooling in France. You will own architecture, tooling, and production systems enabling AI-assisted development across engineering teams.

You will lead multi-quarter initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate with leadership on strategy while shaping scalable, reliable platforms with strong developer experience. Remote options exist in Romania; visa sponsorship may be available.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 2–3+ years at Senior or Staff level.
• Experience building developer platforms, CI/CD, observability or related tooling.
• Experience delivering tooling that improves developer velocity.
• Experience leading AI-powered developer tools adoption.
• Experience in high-performing engineering environments.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and SaaS into internal systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration and mentorship.
• Autonomy and pragmatic trade-offs.

Responsabilités

• Own architecture, deployment and evolution of developer platform and AI tooling.
• Lead multi-quarter projects with clear milestones and measurable improvements.
• Build and operate systems for productivity, CI/CD, observability and testing.
• Lead adoption of AI-powered developer tools across teams.
• Define technical direction and scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with leadership on roadmap and strategy.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and best practices.
• Monitor operational health and drive improvements.
• Ensure reliable integrations with APIs, SaaS, and external platforms.
