Job summary

Micron Technology, Inc. is hiring a Firmware Engineer to build high-performance memory controller firmware and SSD software. You will participate in evaluation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analyses to improve speed, latency, and power while reducing SoC complexity.

You will triage issues, file bug reports, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve problems and drive firmware quality. A strong background in embedded firmware and PCIe/NVMe interfaces is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in embedded firmware development and debugging.
  • Proficient in C; Rust is a plus; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with SSD/FMC storage interfaces (PCIe/NVMe) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test firmware IP subsystems for SSD products to meet performance, endurance and quality requirements.
  • Create firmware unit and functional tests to verify subsystem performance and reliability.
  • Communicate with management and cross-functional teams with clear, detailed activity summaries.
  • Foster teamwork and personal development within the firmware group.

As a Firmware Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will build groundbreaking high-performance controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You will assist in the evaluation, creation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analyzes of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and Solid State Drives (SSD) that will improve performance, while reducing power, latency and SoC (System on Chip) complexity for the target sectors. You can expect to partner multi-disciplinary Engineers seek multi-functional product development issues. You will triage failures, file bug reports, and help the development teams with isolating issues.

DEVELOP AND TEST FIRMWARE
  • SSD products: Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products that meet or exceed the requirements of the technical spec matrix; including, but not limited to: Performance, Endurance, Capacity, Functionality, and Quality/Reliability

  • Firmware Quality Assurance: Develop a firmware unit and functional tests that ensures the firmware subsystem meets the quality, functional, and performance requirements required at each integration breakthrough in the product development lifecycle

COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
  • Dedicatedly provide management, multi-functional team members, and the firmware team with consistent, detailed, and accurate summaries of activities within firmware development.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Masters/Bachelors in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • In-depth knowledge and minimum 2 years' experience in embedded firmware development and debugging

  • Expertise in programming languages (eg. C, RUST), programming tools & environments

  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of day-to-day supervision

  • Experience with team leadership and/or supervising engineers and technicians

  • Experience programming in Python will be viewed as an advantage

  • Experience working with storage interfaces ideally PCIE/NVMe is considered a plus

  • Experience with NAND flash and other non-volatile storage can be a plus

  • Experience in storage industry, storage systems, or a related technology is an advantage

  • Experience in conduct analysis, designs, performs programming, debugs, and modifies software

  • Proficiency in resolving code problems for firmware applications
