Description of the Team/Project

The Source Applications Team develops semiconductor quantum light sources and spin–photon interfaces for quantum information processing. Our work combines experimental quantum optics, coherent spin control, and photonic entanglement generation.

Preserving spin coherence is essential for generating entangled states and performing quantum operations. This internship will investigate dynamical decoupling techniques to protect spins in semiconductor quantum dots from environmental noise and extend their coherence beyond the free-induction dephasing time, T₂*.

Working closely with our scientists, you will implement and compare optical spin-control sequences, identify their practical limitations, and assess their compatibility with spin–photon entanglement protocols.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Characterize spin coherence.
  • Implement and optimize dynamical decoupling sequences, such as CPMG-family sequences.
  • Investigate how pulse timing, rotation fidelity, and excitation conditions affect coherence preservation.
  • Analyze experimental data to extract coherence times and compare the performance of different sequences.
  • Work with the team to interpret results and identify the main sources of decoherence and control errors.
  • Document your findings and contribute to the development of robust spin-control protocols for quantum information experiments.
Education & Background
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or a final-year engineering degree in physics, quantum technologies, photonics, or a related field.
  • A solid foundation in quantum mechanics.
  • Previous laboratory experience in optics, spectroscopy, or experimental physics would be an advantage.
Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with quantum optics, spin physics, or coherent control.
  • Programming skills in Python or an equivalent language for data analysis and visualization.
  • Interest in hands‑on experimental work involving lasers, optical alignment, and measurement automation.
  • Experience with pulsed experiments, cryogenic systems, or semiconductor quantum dots is welcome but not required.
Soft Skills
  • Scientific curiosity and a rigorous approach to experimental work.
  • Patience and persistence when troubleshooting and optimizing experiments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate results clearly.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and progressively take ownership of experimental tasks.
Languages
  • Good written and spoken English is required.
  • French
  • Swile Card (meal vouchers)
  • 50% participation in transportation costs
  • Possibility of remote work
  • Internship Allowance between €1,200 and €1,400 per month
  • 1,5 days off per month, cumulative
