Job description

We are looking for a product-minded Software Engineer to join our Control squad, with the role open in London, Paris or Barcelona.

The Control squad helps finance teams set the right guardrails around company spending, without slowing employees down. We build the policies, workflows and visibility tools that make it easier for companies to control spend while keeping day-to-day operations simple and flexible.

You will work on a highly product-oriented domain, where the challenge is not only to build robust systems, but also to turn complex financial rules into clear and intuitive experiences. This is a full-stack role, with a particular opportunity for engineers who enjoy working on frontend experiences, configuration flows and dashboards.

You will contribute throughout the feature lifecycle, from understanding the problem and shaping the solution through technical design, development, testing, deployment and continuous improvement.

Our stack
  • TypeScript

  • Node.js for backend and banking applications

  • React on the frontend

  • PostgreSQL for data storage; Redis, SQS, and Kafka for jobs and queues

  • Terraform to define our infrastructure

  • Kubernetes, Lambdas, and Step Functions to run our applications

  • AWS as our cloud provider

  • GitHub Actions for CI

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop flexible spend policies and approval workflows.

  • Build experiences for managing budgets, spending limits and analytical fields.

  • Create clear dashboards and reporting capabilities for Finance Controllers.

  • Develop self-service configuration flows for rules, permissions and control settings.

  • Work closely with Product and Design to make complex financial concepts simple and understandable.

  • Contribute to technical decisions around rule-heavy domains, data consistency, asynchronous processing and reporting.

  • Own features from discovery through production, with support from the wider Engineering team.

  • Improve the quality, maintainability and usability of the squad’s systems.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly in your daily workflow.

Why join Control?
  • Work on a core product area that directly impacts how companies manage and control their spending.

  • Help shape a domain where product thinking, UX and technical design are equally important.

  • Solve interesting engineering problems around configurable rules, permissions, consistency and reporting.

  • Build experiences used by Finance Controllers and operational teams across multiple entities and organisations.

  • Join a squad where a strong frontend perspective is genuinely valuable, alongside solid backend and architectural ownership.

  • Have a visible impact on both the customer experience and the evolution of Spendesk’s financial platform.

What we're looking for
  • At least 3 years of professional software development experience, ideally in a product-focused environment.
Fluency in written and spoken English, our business language.
Strong TypeScript skills, with professional experience in Node.js and/or React.
Experience building and maintaining production features.
Good engineering fundamentals, including testing, code quality and maintainable system design.
The ability to take ownership of features and work autonomously while collaborating closely with Product and Design.
A product-oriented mindset and an interest in understanding user problems.
Willingness to contribute to technical discussions and grow towards broader ownership over time.
As we are an international team, please submit your application and CV in English.
