Willowlee Sod Farms in Morfontaine, Grand Est, seeks a seasonal snow removal labourer to keep client properties safe during winter events. You will operate snow removal equipment, shovel sidewalks, and apply de-icing materials while adhering to OHSA safety rules.

The role requires stamina and flexibility for extended hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Compensation starts at an hourly rate with a winter premium in a temporary position.

Qualifications

• Valid Class G Driver’s License with clean driving abstract.
• Ability to work flexible and extended hours during snow events.
• Reliable transportation to and from work sites.
• Physically fit for manual labour in cold conditions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate sidewalk plows and salting equipment to clear snow and ice.
• Manually shovel sidewalks, doorways, and pedestrian zones.
• Inspect equipment before/after use for safety and function.
• Monitor weather and respond to snow events.
• Apply salt/de-icing materials per site requirements.
• Document work performed, materials used, and hours worked.
• Communicate site conditions and progress to the manager.
• Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.
• Follow PPE and OHSA safety protocols.
• Be available for flexible/extended hours, including early mornings/evenings/weekends/holidays.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, snow removal labourers play a critical role in maintaining safe and accessible client properties during various winter conditions and events. This position involves operating snow removal equipment, manually shoveling sidewalks and entryways, and applying de-icing materials. The role requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and the ability to work in challenging weather conditions, often for extended hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate sidewalk plows and salting equipment to clear snow and ice from designated areas.


• Manually shovel sidewalks, doorways, and other pedestrian zones as required.


• Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment to ensure safety and functionality.


• Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snow events as directed.


• Apply salt and other de-icing materials in accordance with site requirements.


• Accurately document work performed, materials used, and hours worked.


• Communicate effectively with the Operations Manager and team regarding site conditions and progress.


• Report equipment issues or safety concerns in a timely manner.


• Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OHSA standards.


• Be available to work flexible and extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in cold, snowy, and icy conditions.


• On-call schedule during snow events; extended hours may be required.


• Use of PPE including gloves, boots, and weather-appropriate warm-weather and safety gear.


• Exposure to cold, noise, vibration, and slippery surfaces.
