Service Engineer E&A

Location: Harfleur, France.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Service Engineer E&A your work will include the following tasks:

  • Carry out field service activities related to electrical and automation systems for Wärtsilä products, including commissioning, trial tests, adjustments, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on‑site to identify and resolve root causes of failures in electrical and automation equipment.
  • Lead and manage assigned tasks or teams on‑site, coordinating with the customer to arrange schedules and ensure the desired scope of work is achieved.
  • Provide prompt feedback to the Work Coordination and Resources departments.
  • Ensure all work is executed in compliance with Wärtsilä's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) guidelines, as well as customer site procedures.
  • Inspect completed work to verify that repairs are finalized correctly and that machinery and equipment meet specifications and safety standards.
  • Proactively advise customers and promote available products and solutions.
  • Conduct site audits and provide support to sales departments.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed and prepare comprehensive reports, including necessary details such as measurements, photos, methodologies, and investigations.
  • Perform internal and external progress reporting on the status of assigned tasks.
  • Track and report time spent on tasks, along with spare parts used.
  • Prepare technical and travel reports in English, ensuring timely submission and inclusion of all required documentation in accordance with Wärtsilä quality standards.
  • Be ready to travel on short notice, with more than 60% of working time spent away from home.

The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You'll be working as a part of a team with diverse expertise.

Requirements for the position
  • Technical knowledge in electrical and automation systems, communication networks and interfaces, sensors, actuators, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including the MS Office suite.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 60% of the time, work abroad, and work on board sailing vessels.
  • Good English and French skills in both reading and writing.
  • Motivated to learn through classroom and field training, with a desire for rapid professional growth.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, follow directives, and interact with people from diverse nationalities and cultures.
As an ideal candidate you might also have…
  • Technical high school diploma in electrics, electronics, automation.
  • Previous experiences in similar roles or sailing while working in vessel’s engine rooms.
  • PLC programming, SCADA systems knowledge.
