About the role

As a Senior Solar Designer at BlueWave, you will play a key role in shaping the development of solar and energy storage projects ranging from 1MW - 250 MW and supporting the Engineering team with high-quality design and drafting. This role sits at the intersection of technical precision and creative problem‑solving, requiring collaboration with Development team, Grid Integration, Legal, and other teams to produce optimized system layouts that maximize efficiency and performance. You will contribute to project success by ensuring designs meet industry standards, supporting construction detailing, and integrating production optimization strategies. With a mix of independent work, teamwork, and on‑site engagement, this position offers a dynamic opportunity to influence the design of large‑scale renewable energy projects while driving innovation in the clean energy space.

What you'll do
  • Leading discussions with Development Engineers and senior designers to produce AutoCAD layouts and design packages
  • Working independently as well as with a team to meet established deadlines
  • Generating drawings that are in line with company drawing standards and templates
  • Following quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance
  • Being proactive when communicating with the team
  • Generating Bill of Materials from CAD drawings
  • Providing civil and electrical construction details for PV and BESS systems
  • Provide expected yield and production optimization ideas at various stages of design development
  • 25%-30% travel expected to project sites as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 2-year AAS degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting or equivalent with additional experience in place of the above
  • 5+ years of drafting/design experience in the solar PV or renewable industry
  • Advanced knowledge of solar PV designs and layout considerations
  • Advanced understanding of electrical plans, diagrams, and terminology
  • Superb problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Willingness to learn and grow technically
  • Detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications; Experience with production estimation tools such as PVsyst, Helioscope, PVCase, etc.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • NABCEP Certification
  • Familiarity with civil and grading design
  • High voltage/substation experience
  • Experience designing utility scale projects in PV, Storage or Cogen facilities
  • Construction Management experience

The anticipated salary range for this role is $115,000 - $130,000 per year + bonus.

Compensation

Compensation will be influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, education, certifications, and relevant experience as outlined in the job description above.
