Résumé du poste

Gama, a NewSpace startup based in Ivry-sur-Seine near Paris, seeks a Senior Solar Array Engineer to own the mechanical design of deployable solar arrays from concept to production.

You will lead end-to-end architecture, perform trades and analyses, and work hands-on with prototype assemblies, deployment tests, and production line development, shaping a growing engineering team.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with a highly international team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in spacecraft or launch vehicle mechanical design, ideally with solar array or deployable panel experience.
  • Multiple full development cycles: hardware from concept to orbit/launch.
  • Lightweight structural design and deployable mechanisms expertise.
  • PV panel integration experience and hands-on CAD + hand calculations.

Responsabilités

  • Design, develop and qualify mechanical subsystems of a lightweight deployable solar array, taking end-to-end ownership of the architecture.
  • Drive design trades and analyses (structural, thermal, mechanism kinematics) from concept through detailed design and test.
  • Hands-on hardware work for prototype assembly, deployment testing, system integration, and production line development.
  • Build robust, flight-proven solutions meeting mass and volume targets in harsh launch and orbital environments.

Description du poste

Our team is the secret to our success. We are proud to be working with inspiring colleagues who are smart, fun, ambitious and looking for the challenge to transform an industry. Do you think this could be you? To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for a Senior Solar Array Engineer. In this position, you will own the mechanical design of core subsystems of our next-generation ultra-light deployable solar array, from concept through qualification all the way to volume production, and help shape a growing engineering team alongside former SpaceX engineers.

Your mission will be to:

  • Design, develop and qualify key mechanical subsystems of an extremely lightweight deployable solar array, taking end-to-end ownership of a major share of the mechanical architecture, including panel structure and PV integration
  • Drive design trades and analyses (structural, thermal, mechanism kinematics) from early concept through detailed design and test
  • Get hands on with hardware for prototype assembly, deployment testing, system integration, and production line development
  • Build robust, flight proven solutions that meet aggressive mass and volume targets in demanding launch and orbital environments
  • Define and execute the integration, verification and validation strategies for your subsystems
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers and serve as a technical reference for solar array design practices
Profile required
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in spacecraft or launch vehicle mechanical design, ideally with direct exposure to solar array or deployable panel structures, within a fast paced New Space environment
  • Multiple full development cycles under your belt: you have taken hardware from blank sheet to orbit (or launch pad) more than once
  • Deep expertise in lightweight structural design, deployable mechanisms, and ideally PV panel integration
  • Fluency with CAD (e.g. CATIA, Siemens NX) and FEA tools; comfort with hand calculations to sanity check results
  • Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity
  • Autonomy, and a willingness to be fully responsible for a significant part of the finished product
  • A proven track record of delivering reliable systems for harsh environments
  • A willingness to mentor juniors and provide technical leadership for solar array design
  • Professional level English — further languages welcome
Company description

Gama is a NewSpace startup based in Ivry sur Seine, near Paris. We are developing a next generation power system for commercial LEO satellites - from solar array power conversion to battery energy storage. We design, build, and test our hardware in house, and we move fast: our engineers see their designs go from schematic to flight hardware.

We are a small team where ownership matters: you own your subsystem end to end, from first calculations to test results. We work hands on, we help each other without ego, and we treat mistakes as data - finding out why something failed is how we get better.

Benefits:

  • Work that will fly. Contribute directly to the future of space exploration and Sustainable Space.
  • Access to cutting edge facilities and development opportunities in the heart of the European space industry.
  • A steep personal development path, working alongside world class aerospace engineers.
  • Equity package and competitive compensation.
  • A highly talented, dynamic and international team.

You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you meet many, but not all, of the criteria, we would be glad to hear from you. We value potential and support growth into the role.
