Vocca in Paris seeks a senior backend engineer to own the future of our AI-driven healthcare integrations. You will architect the unified booking layer in TypeScript, ship robust integrations across clinic software, and help scale to millions of calls per month.

This is a hands-on, impact-focused role with 4+ years of production backend experience, deep TS/Node skills, and comfort with Go/Python/Java when needed.

The problem you will solve

Every medical practice runs on software that holds its calendar and its patients. There are dozens of different ones. Most were built twenty years ago and some have no API at all. To book an appointment during a call, our AI agent has to read and write in that software in real time, while the patient waits on the line. Nobody else has managed to build this. On several of these systems, Vocca is the only integrator in the world.

This is also the team with the most direct impact on the business. A clinic whose software is connected to our agent does not switch. Retention, pricing power, our lead over competitors: it all depends on these integrations.

The next step is writing back. Today the agent reads and books. Tomorrow it updates records in EHR, PMS and RIS systems, which raises the reliability bar a lot. In the US, we are opening the dental software ecosystem, with the compliance work that comes with it (HIPAA, SOC2).

The long term vision is simple: the agent becomes the action layer between patients and everything the front desk used to do by hand. The integrations are the road to get there. You would be building that road.

What You Will Own

• The architecture of our booking layer. Today it is code written provider by provider, under pressure. It is becoming one unified layer in TypeScript that can handle the rules of each medical centre and where adding a new software takes days, not weeks.
• Speed and reliability at more than 1 million calls a month. A call to a clinic software can take several seconds, and the patient cannot wait. You will decide how we detect a booking failure in a clinic within 24 hours and what a healthy integration looks like.
• The hard integrations that nobody else wants to do. They are what makes Vocca hard to replace.
• How the team works. Engineering team is growing fast and will organise in squads. You will define how this one works: reviews, documentation, technical decisions. You will be one of the most experienced engineers in the company and we will expect you to act like it.

Stack

TypeScript everywhere (Node, monorepo), PostgreSQL, REST and SOAP APIs from software vendors.

We are migrating our last Python services to TypeScript over the coming months.

How We Build

• We use AI seriously. Agents in every workflow, Claude Max provided. A migration estimated at 3 months was done in 2 weeks.
• For this role we are looking a the senior who frames the work first, sets guardrails and reviews carefully.
• We ship the version that works, then fix the last 1% when it shows up. With AI, this trade off is much cheaper than before. But the judgment about what not to touch is yours.
• We talk every day with the ops team that deploys clinics and the support team that hears when something breaks.

What We Expect From You

First week

• Get onboarded on the stack.
• Ship your first fix on a live integration.

First month

• Own one integration end to end, from the software vendor to production.
• Write down how our booking layer should evolve.

First 3 months

• The unified booking layer in TypeScript is the standard.
• Adding a new software takes days, not weeks.
• We detect a booking failure in any clinic within 24 hours.

6 to 12 months

• Our first US integrations run in production.
• The integrations team has its own way of working, and you have hired at least one engineer into it.

Who Does Well Here

• 4+ years building backend systems in production, mostly in startups or fast growing companies where you had to decide with incomplete information.
• Strong in TypeScript and Node. Or a strong backend engineer in Go, Python or Java who is clearly ready to become strong in TypeScript.
• You have integrated systems you did not control and you know the difference between a clean API and the real world.
• You had good practices before AI: strong system, clean refactoring and a good nose for the risks of generated code that nobody tested.
• You can say no, reduce the scope and explain a technical decision to a founder in two minutes.

• 45 min with Nans, Talent.
• 45 min with Pierrick, Head of Engineering.
• 1h30 in our office with the engineering team, with live coding without AI and a real conversation about architecture.
• 30 min with Hugo, CTO.

Then references and an offer. When the match is obvious, we have made an offer in 24 hours. You get feedback at every step.
