Job summary

amo is seeking an early Backend Engineer to join our team in Paris. You’ll work closely with the team to own central components and features, contributing across the backend and a shared Rust component for cross-platform networking and data synchronization.

As an early member, you’ll shape the infrastructure and culture, with a focus on scalable systems, high-quality code, and collaboration with iOS/Android engineers to deliver a unified experience.

Qualifications

• Production experience with Rust or strong background in systems languages (C++, C, OCaml).
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems in production (Kafka, Redpanda, ScyllaDB, Cassandra, or similar).
• Strong instincts about consumer social products—what makes them work and fail.
• French isn’t required; English is acceptable and ramp-up support is provided.

Responsibilities

• Develop systems that scale to high traffic and data volumes using selected technologies.
• Collaborate to maintain a shared Rust component for networking and data synchronization across mobile and backend.
• Participate in brainstorming to design and implement differentiating features.
• Contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Own your scope by monitoring analytics, triaging issues, and addressing crashes.
