Design at Pennylane

Design sits at the centre of this mission and its purpose is to deliver an accessible, seamless and enjoyable experience for our two main users.

Our team of over 40 Product Designers works across different tracks divided into cross-functional squads composed of Engineering, Product and Design.

Autonomy, trust and transparency are the core values of our culture, and they are directly reflected in how our designers operate daily.

At Pennylane, designers are expected to actively contribute from defining the problem space, to research and testing.

Team and Context

We are seeking a Senior Product Design Manager for the Accounting Track, with a strong strategic and design mindset and extensive experience in complex product environments.

You will work directly with C-level executives and executive committees, simplifying complex topics and communicating clearly with senior stakeholders.

As a senior design manager at the track level, you will report to the Accounting Head of Product (Emmanuel Hosanski) and mentor and lead a team of three Product Design Managers (“manager of managers”). You may also take responsibility for a few individuals across newly created tracks as the organization stabilizes.

You will collaborate closely with the Accounting Head of Engineering, other track senior design managers, and will integrate with the rest of the product organization.

Pennylane is based in Paris but the design team is remote-friendly; meetings are held in Paris a few days every two months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and own the design strategy for the Accounting Track, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.
  • Lead a team of design managers, providing mentorship, hiring, performance feedback and career development.
  • Set and maintain product design standards, ensuring consistency across all products and services.
  • Drive product discovery, research, usability testing and iterate on design solutions in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
  • Act as a design advocate to C-level leaders and the executive committee, translating technical details into business value.
  • Champion design thinking in the organization and collaborate across stakeholders to influence product vision.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience as a design manager or design lead in a technology company, preferably with financial or accounting products.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing leadership, strategy and UX deliverables.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex concepts simply.
  • Experience managing design teams in cross-functional squads and mentoring design talent.
  • English and French – strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
  • Fluency in design tools (Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and familiarity with research and prototyping methods.
  • Background in data-driven design and iteration is a plus.
Benefits and Perks

Remote-friendly: work from any European country within two hours’ time difference from CET.

  • 25 vacation days paid by Pennylane.
  • Company shares to invest in the company’s success.
  • Workspace budget and monthly allowance for coworking space.
  • Access to Gymlib for 8,000 fitness spaces and 300 wellness activities.
  • Busuu membership to improve English or French.
  • Latest Apple equipment.
  • Company events such as Pennylane Days (quarterly) and annual seminar to foster cohesion.

If you are based in France, you will have a French contract under French regulation, with:

  • 6-12 RTT.
  • 5 weeks of PTO.
  • Lunch credits (Swile), Alan Blue healthcare cover.
  • Regular events in Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes and other cities.

Pennylane is also working to extend these benefits to employees based outside France, though complexity varies by country.

Company Technical Stack Overview

Pennylane’s tech team consists of about 230 people: Backend, Full-stack, Frontend engineers, Engineering Managers and Senior Engineering Managers.

Each engineer belongs to a squad dedicated to a specific product perimeter, led by an Engineering Manager and working closely with a Product Manager and a Product Designer.

Every squad gathers all required skills to design, develop and deliver features end-to-end with complete autonomy.
