Pennylane is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build reliable, scalable, user-focused products. You will lead a squad, design, implement, test and operate solutions in production while mentoring peers to raise engineering quality.

You will contribute to a fast-growing fintech, enjoy a remote-friendly culture across Europe, and participate in tech initiatives and company events.

Qualifications

• Have strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and React (7–8 years)
• Collaborative team player with clear ownership of deliverables
• Excellent communication and ability to articulate ideas clearly

Responsabilités

• Understand and frame user and product problems to deliver pragmatic solutions
• Lead significant technical deliveries within your squad from design to production
• Investigate and resolve production issues using monitoring and data analysis
• Design and evolve robust, scalable, reliable solutions
• Bring strong expertise in at least one major part of the stack and onboard new teams quickly
• Improve engineering practices through code reviews, pair programming, documentation and RFCs
• Mentor engineers and drive best practices across the organization
• Collaborate with other teams to unblock topics and communicate progress and decisions

HOW you will contribute to the company as a Senior Software Engineer?

As a Senior Software Engineer at Pennylane, your squad is your primary focus. You will contribute to building reliable, scalable and user-focused products, while helping the engineers around you grow and raising the quality of our technical execution. You will:

• Understand and frame user and product problems, using your product knowledge to help your squad deliver simple, pragmatic and valuable solutions.

• Lead significant technical deliveries within your squad, from understanding the problem to designing, implementing, testing and operating the solution in production.

• Investigate and resolve complex production issues, using monitoring, observability and data analysis tools to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.

• Design and evolve robust solutions, identifying performance, scalability and reliability opportunities and turning them into pragmatic technical improvements.

• Bring strong expertise in at least one major part of our stack, while being able to join a new team and become autonomous on a high-impact initiative within a few weeks.

• Improve engineering practices across the organization, through high-quality code reviews, pair programming, documentation, RFCs and the adoption of AI-assisted development without compromising software quality.

• Act as a role model and a driver for other engineers, sharing knowledge, providing actionable feedback and helping the team continuously improve its technical skills and ways of working.

• Collaborate effectively with other teams when needed, proactively unblocking technical topics and clearly communicating progress, risks, decisions and results to the relevant stakeholders.

• Contribute to the Pennylane tech community, through technical content, onboarding, interviews, incident resolution, tech initiatives, meetups or other community-building activities.

You’re the right candidate if you…

• Have strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and React (at least 7-8 years)

• Combine technical expertise with strong product and business understanding, enjoy solving complex problems and care deeply about your users.

• Are a collaborative team player, communicate clearly and take ownership of delivering reliable, pragmatic solutions.

• Like being challenged and solving complex problems (accounting is complex in Europe)

• Have strong communication skills and are capable of articulating your ideas clearly

1. If you are based in France, you will have a French contract following French regulation on top of the additional perks : 6 to 13 RTT, 5 weeks PTOs, lunch credits (Swile), Alan Blue healthcare cover and regular events in cities where Pennylaners are mostly presents (Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes…)

2. We’re working on providing those last advantages to our people based outside of France as well, but it can be quite more complex depending on different countries.

Hiring process

• You will first have a general chat with a Talent Acquisition Manager (30 min)

• You’ll then have a test-home assignment + a debriefing session with two of our software engineers (1 hour)

• You’ll have a last culture-fit discussion with two people from our tech leadership (1 h)

We make sure we move fast ; you can expect the recruitment process with us to last between 15 and 25 days in total.
