Overview
Avel Technologies is looking for a Senior Android Automotive System Debug Engineer to support a new automotive customer in Toulouse. The engineer will contribute to the validation and stabilisation of an embedded Android Automotive platform in an international engineering environment.
The role focuses on Google compliance and cybersecurity test activities, particularly Google Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) and Security Test Suite (STS), together with low-level system debugging. The successful candidate must be autonomous, methodical, and capable of driving complex investigations from failure reproduction through root-cause identification and fix verification.
Responsibilities
- Plan, configure, execute, and monitor Google CTS and Google STS campaigns on Android Automotive targets;
- Analyse test-suite failures, identify failure patterns, and determine the affected Android or embedded platform layer;
- Perform system-level and low-level debugging across the Android Framework, native services, HALs, Linux kernel, BSP, and device-driver layers;
- Collect and analyse ADB output, Logcat logs, bugreports, tombstones, crash dumps, traces, kernel logs, and other diagnostic evidence;
- Reproduce defects reliably and distinguish between software, configuration, integration, test-environment, and hardware-related issues;
- Perform root-cause analysis, document technical findings, and propose corrective or containment actions;
- Work with developers and platform engineers to validate corrections and prevent regression;
- Track defects, retest results, compliance evidence, open risks, and readiness for customer or Google certification milestones;
- Collaborate with Android developers, system architects, BSP and hardware teams, validation engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and customer stakeholders;
- Develop or improve scripts and utilities that increase the repeatability and efficiency of test execution, evidence collection, and failure analysis;
- Provide clear technical status, escalation points, and recommendations while managing investigations with limited supervision.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience executing and analysing Google Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) campaigns;
- Hands-on experience with Google Security Test Suite (STS), Android security validation, or closely related cybersecurity test activities;
- Strong understanding of Android architecture, including the Framework, system services, Android Runtime, native services, Binder, HAL, and vendor interfaces;
- Strong Linux and embedded-system debugging skills, with the ability to investigate issues close to the operating system and hardware abstraction layers;
- Practical experience with ADB, Logcat, bugreport, tombstones, crash dumps, kernel logs, tracing, and similar diagnostic mechanisms;
- Experience investigating integration failures involving boot, service start-up, permissions, SELinux, process communication, memory, performance, or timing.
- Ability to perform structured failure triage, root-cause analysis, corrective-action follow-up, and fix verification;
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritise investigations, and maintain clear traceability of findings and evidence;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a rigorous and methodical engineering approach;
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with international and multidisciplinary teams;
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Google Automotive Services, or formal Android compliance and certification processes;
- Knowledge of Vehicle HAL, automotive-specific Android services, and vehicle integration concepts;
- Experience with test automation or diagnostic tooling using Python, Shell, or a comparable scripting language;
- Knowledge of automotive communication technologies such as CAN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, or related in-vehicle networks;
- French language skills and familiarity with automotive cybersecurity, vulnerability analysis, or secure platform configuration.
What We Offer
- A senior hands-on role on an advanced Android Automotive platform for an international automotive customer;
- Exposure to Google compliance, cybersecurity validation, embedded Android integration, and complex system-debugging activities;
- A collaborative engineering environment with direct access to experienced embedded-software and automotive specialists.
