Job summary

European Tech Recruit in Paris is looking for a Research Engineer to design, build, and evaluate advanced AI agent systems powered by large language models, working at the cutting edge of agentic AI research and engineering.

This is a permanent onsite role based in Paris, France, offering collaboration with a leading research centre and opportunities to push the boundaries of AI systems. Strong PhD and PyTorch experience are required.

Qualifications

• PhD required in CS/AI/ML or closely related field.
• Strong Python and software engineering skills.
• Hands-on experience with large language models and modern generative AI systems.
• Experience with PyTorch or equivalent DL framework.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement AI agents based on large language models and multimodal foundation models.
• Build systems involving tool use, planning, memory, retrieval, code execution and multi-step workflows.
• Develop evaluation environments, benchmarks, and failure-analysis tools for agent capabilities.
• Rapidly prototype new research ideas and turn promising approaches into robust, reusable implementations.
• Run controlled experiments and make evidence-based technical decisions to improve agent reliability, efficiency, and latency.
• Build clean research infrastructure, APIs, and internal demonstrations.

We are currently partnered with an industry leading research centre in Paris looking to expand their team with a Research Engineer. In this role, you would work to design, build, and evaluate advanced AI agent systems powered by large language models, working at the cutting edge of agentic AI research and engineering.

This is a permanent, onsite opportunity based in Paris, France.

Key responsibilities for this Research Engineer position:

• Design and implement AI agents based on large language models and multimodal foundation models.
• Build systems involving tool use, planning, memory, retrieval, code execution, and multi-step workflows.
• Develop rigorous evaluation environments, benchmarks, and failure-analysis tools for agent capabilities.
• Rapidly prototype new research ideas and turn promising approaches into robust, reusable implementations.
• Run controlled experiments and make evidence-based technical decisions to improve agent reliability, efficiency, and latency.
• Build clean research infrastructure, APIs, and internal demonstrations.

Key requirements:

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related field
• Strong Python programming and software engineering skills.
• Practical knowledge of large language models, transformers, and modern generative AI systems.
• Experience with PyTorch or equivalent deep-learning framework.
• Ability to design meaningful experiments and evaluate systems objectively.
• Experience building tool-using, coding, or computer-use agents and multi-step LLM systems
