Description du poste

Overview

The ESRF is one of the world’s most advanced synchrotron facilities, where thousands of researchers explore matter at the atomic scale using very high‑energy X‑rays. Joining the ESRF means contributing to a unique international scientific infrastructure that supports research and innovation.

At the heart of the ESRF, the Safety Group ensures a controlled working environment by addressing the radiation protection challenges associated with accelerators and beamline equipment. From shielding studies and radiation monitoring to personal and environmental dosimetry, its activities are essential to the successful operation of scientific experiments.

Some beamlines use radioactive sources for calibration purposes, while others involve the handling of radioactive samples. Radiation protection is therefore a key component in supporting scientific research.

Responsibilities
  • Monitoring, managing, and ensuring the traceability of radioactive samples and sources
  • Performing personal and environmental dosimetry monitoring and analysis
  • Participating in the calibration, maintenance, and operation of radiation measurement equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with radiation protection requirements in experimental hutches and around X‑ray generators
  • Contributing to the radiological monitoring of the accelerators, working close to the facilities
Qualifications
  • You hold a higher technician qualification (Bachelor's degree, BTS, DUT, Licence, or international equivalent) in radiation protection or a related field such as nuclear safety.
  • This position is open to both recent graduates and candidates with initial professional experience. Your motivation, technical skills, and personal qualities will be key assets for success in this role.
  • You have a solid foundation in radiation protection regulations and techniques, which you are eager to apply and further develop within a high-level scientific environment. Specific training on ESRF facilities (accelerators and X‑ray beamlines) will enable you to quickly build expertise.
  • You are rigorous, well‑organized, and enjoy working as part of a team. You thrive in demanding technical environments where precision, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility are essential.
  • English is the working language of the ESRF and is an integral part of daily activities. A practical level of English enabling effective communication in an international professional environment is required.
