Description du poste

The Vacuum Group provides services to the ESRF accelerators and beamlines. Its responsibilities encompass a broad range of support. Join our dynamic team and play a key role in overseeing the vacuum systems across the entire complex of accelerators and ESRF beamlines.

The Instrumentation Unit provides reliable and continuous support to users while maintaining, upgrading and developing automated systems to meet current and future operational needs. This position offers excellent opportunities for learning, innovation and the development of new technical solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Technical support and troubleshooting for vacuum instrumentation and controllers including pressure gauges, thermocouples, pumps and related equipment.
  • Participating in project‑based activities for beamlines: from design to installation, testing, and commissioning of automated PLC‑based systems in compliance with standards.
  • Supporting the development, maintenance and optimisation of customised data acquisition and control systems (hardware and software) for vacuum laboratory activities and beamline applications.
  • Contributing to ESRF operational activities by participating in the Vacuum Group's standby/on‑call support team.
Education and Technical Skills
  • Technical degree in Automation and Industrial IT (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, ingeniería Tecnica or equivalent) with a minimum 120 ECTS.
  • At least one year of professional experience in automation, including the use of PLC systems such as Wago and Schneider Electric.
  • Proficiency in Windows 11, standard office software and PLC programming.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields would be an asset: databases, hardware interfaces (serial and Ethernet communications), electronics, or electrical systems.

  • Basic proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).
Working conditions

Permanent contract. The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
