• Fluent English in a professional context (C1).
• Based in or willing to relocate to the Paris / Île-de-France region, available to work on-site at least 3 days per week.
• Genuinely interested in training methodology beyond a desk job.

You didn’t become a pilot to do the same thing 4,000 times. If you are, or were, a TRI, SFI, or experienced instructor pilot who’s ready to move from delivering training to designing the future of it — this role exists for you.

Simaero is a a fast-growing international pilot training company operating simulator training centres in France, South Africa, China, and India. We provide mandatory recurrent training to over 300 airlines worldwide and are developing our dedicated team to develop Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) programs — the most significant shift in pilot training methodology in decades.

We’re hiring one person to join our core ATO team in Paris. This is not a corporate training department with layers of process. It’s an entrepreneurial unit where you will develop the pilot training business, design training programs, work directly with airline clients, and still spend time in the simulator doing what you trained for.

What you’ll actually do?

• Design and implement CBTA programs for airline type rating and recurrent training. Develop competency frameworks, grading matrices, and assessment methodologies aligned with ICAO Doc 9868 and requirements of EASA and other CAAs.
• Build training courseware and digital tools that support evidence-based pilot assessment. You’ll work with modern platforms, not paper binders.
• Handle ATO regulatory compliance — EASA Part-ORA, training program approvals, quality system documentation.
• Develop airline client relationships. Develop Simaero’s training business by building relationships with heads of training and flight operations directors. Help shape proposals and win new business.
• Instruct in the simulator 1–2 days per week. We provide training for those who want to become an SFI quickly and are ready to take on the challenge.

You’ll report to the ATO team leader, an ex-Airbus with deep CBTA expertise.

Who we’re looking for?

The essentials

• Commercial pilot background (ATPL or frozen ATPL) with airline or multi-crew experience : at least 1500 flight hours.
• Experience designing training syllabi, courseware, or competency frameworks; or any work within an ATO or airline training department (even part-time alongside line flying).
• Fluent operating in English in a professional context (C1).
• Based in or willing to relocate to the Paris / Île-de-France region, working on side at least 3 days per week
• Genuinely interested in training methodology — not just looking for a desk to sit at.

What would set you apart?

• Familiarity with CBTA concepts, ICAO competency frameworks, or evidence-based training.
• Experience with digital training tools, LMS platforms, or training data analytics.
• Background in human factors, CRM development, or training program design.
• Type rating on aircraft in Simaero’s fleet (A320, B737, A330, B777, ATR, etc.) — but not required. We can type-rate you on our own simulators.
• Entrepreneurial mindset. You’ve built something before — a program, a process, a business — and you want to do it again.

A note on medical status

If you’ve been grounded for medical reasons but still have the knowledge, the passion, and the drive to shape how pilots are trained — we want to hear from you. Your expertise doesn’t expire with your medical certificate.
