Job Description

Unleash Your Potential at L'Oréal's Beauty Tech!

For more than a century, L'Oréal has devoted itself solely to one business: Beauty. Present in 150 countries across five continents and with €42 billion consolidated sales, L'Oréal is the global industry leader. With 37 global beauty brands across four divisions, L'Oréal offers beauty for each covering all beauty categories and catering to all beauty desires. With the acquisition of the Australian brand Aēsop in 2023, the Group continues to expand its portfolio through targeted acquisitions as part of its drive to create the future of beauty.

Today, L'Oréal includes more than 2,000 tech positions and is constantly growing. Beauty Tech is changing the game and leading the shift towards new consumer realities and a digital disruption. Championing Beauty Tech, we invent the beauty of the future while becoming the company of the future.

Beauty Tech is how we know our consumers intimately, augmenting their beauty journeys with unparalleled diverse and sustainable experiences. Beauty Tech equips the Group with the key assets it needs to conquer this new world, where Tech has become strategic. With this ambition, L'Oréal continues to recruit diverse, innovative, skilled and passionate minds in different tech domains such as Data, Digital, Cloud, Cyber Security, IT Architecture, DevOps, Applications and Infrastructure.

Who We Are

We're the Design team inside L'Oréal Online + Offline department, part of the global Beauty Tech. We design experiences that reach hundreds of millions of people across L'Oréal's brands and retailers worldwide. We're a small, senior chapter: internal leads who own the design direction, alongside designers drawn from the best agencies in the world. We benchmark against the best digital products anywhere, not just beauty, and we've started winning awards for it. You'll work in cross-functional squads where product, engineering, and data are in the room from day one. No silos. Just great work that gets shipped.

The role

Our team's design footprint is expanding across three experiences: consumer, professional, and marketer. This role leads the marketer-facing one. You start by owning a single product end-to-end, the Content Workflow Tool (CWT), where internal teams and external partners take an asset from brief to final, with the creative process encoded into steps you can shape as you go. It runs at real scale, it's complex, and it's where you play.

You'll decide what CWT should become and make that case to the business that depends on it. You'll carry some product weight early, not because the job is product management, but because owning the argument is how design earns the room to lead.

The marketer-facing experience is your playground. A service blueprint keeps it connected to the consumer and professional work around it, so you're designing a piece of a larger system, not a tool in isolation. CWT is where you start and where you prove the approach. As it finds its stride, the rest of the suite follows.

What You'll Work On
  • Lead the design of CWT end-to-end: the workflow, the review and commenting experience, the path from brief to finished asset
  • Make the strategic call on where CWT should go next, and build the case that gets the business behind it
  • Define the features that move CWT from useful to essential, the ones that give its users real leverage
  • Set the design direction for the wider marketer-facing suite as your scope grows, using CWT to test what works before it spreads
  • Bring the suite's design and engineering onto a shared design system, so hard-won work compounds instead of duplicating, and the whole thing moves faster without drifting apart
The key challenges
  • You're defining what this product should be, not inheriting a spec. That means making the call on what's most worth building, and making the case for it convincingly enough that the business backs it. That's what makes this a leadership role, not just a design one.
  • The people who depend on CWT need to see where it's going. You'll translate design and product decisions into a direction they believe in, which means you'll listen as much as you lead.
  • Complexity is rarely solved by adding more. You'll decide what to cut, what to keep, and what to build, often without a clean answer waiting for you. All in all, it's about taking something genuinely complex and making it feel effortless, the hardest and most satisfying problem in design.
As a Lead Designer, you will
  • Turn business objectives into a design strategy, and make the case for it to the people who need to believe it
  • Define the right process for a problem space that isn't fully shaped yet, from discovery through delivery
  • Use research to change direction, not just confirm it
  • Improve real user outcomes through decisions that also move the product forward
  • Get product, tech, and senior stakeholders aligned, not just informed
  • Set and hold stakeholder expectations across the product
  • Mentor designers across levels, and shape the team the marketer-facing suite will need
What Will Catch Our Eye
  • You're a designer to your core, but you've never treated craft as the finish line. You've led product or service design where the structure of the thing was the real problem, and you're most at home where design decisions and business decisions are the same conversation. The craft is a given; what sets you apart is knowing what to build and why.
  • You've taken something complex and made it feel simple, and you know that's far harder than it looks.
  • You're comfortable in a room of sceptical stakeholders. You can hold a point of view, hear the doubt underneath the questions, and bring people with you.
  • You think in systems, and you're drawn to the kind of tooling problem that most designers walk past and the best ones can't put down.
  • You want to help design grow at L'Oréal, and you see leading CWT as the first chapter of that, not the whole story.
What Design Means To Us

Design isn't decoration. It's how we make L'Oréal's technology usable, trustworthy, and worth coming back to. Good design starts with understanding people: their context, their constraints, what they're actually trying to get done. From there, it's about making the right calls. What to simplify. What to keep. What to build next. We're not here to make things pretty. We're here to make them work.
