In today's chemical industry, nearly half of all synthetic polymers are produced by the free-radical polymerization of vinyl monomers. However, one of the main limitations of these materials is their lack of degradability. Our project focuses on the study of novel dithiolactone-type cyclic monomers for the synthesis of degradable copolymers. Within the framework of the ANR-funded 3R-DITHIO project, the selected candidate will investigate a new class of monomers suitable for free-radical polymerization. He will develop the synthesis of new sulfur-containing cyclic monomers such as dithiolactones and their derivatives, and will work closely with specialists in radical polymerization.A comprehensive investigation of the the stability of these new monomers in various media will also be carried out. The synthesis of model compounds, including dithioacetals and their derivatives, is also planned to investigate their decomposition pathways and reactivity.
The selected candidate will join the P3R research team at the SOFTMAT laboratory.
The candidate will work in a modern and safe environment: he will use an individual fume hood, and all personal protective equipments will be provided. He will work with modern lab equipment and have access to a well-equipped analytical platform. He will interact closely with other team members. Office and computer equipment will also be provided.
