The CNRS Chrono-Environnement laboratory seeks a postdoctoral researcher to advance a project on wildfires and insect outbreaks in boreal forests using paleoecology, sedimentary DNA and modelling. The successful candidate will work within the DYNABIO team, supported by molecular biology staff and facilities for ancient DNA.

Requirements include a PhD in paleoecology sedimentary DNA, strong molecular biology skills (PCR/qPCR/DD-PCR) and proficiency in R, with ability to collaborate across

Qualifications

• PhD in paleoecology sedimentary DNA, e-DNA.
• Strong knowledge of molecular biology techniques and protocols (PCR, qPCR, DD-PCR).
• Strong skills in numerical data processing (R).
• Ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team and participate in collaborative projects.

Responsabilités

• Identify a target gene specific to Choristoneura fumiferana in mitochondrial DNA.
• Develop a qPCR and ddPCR protocol to quantify this target gene in sediment matrices (objective: obtain robust and reproducible concentrations).
• Apply this protocol to the project's lacustrine sediment records, with potential supervision of Master’s students.
• Process obtained concentrations to calculate outbreak frequencies.
• Compare the data with forest fire records and vegetation dynamics.
• Publish the methodology and results in a multi-proxy study on multiple disturbances.
