Offer Description

The Laboratory of Photonics, Electronics, and Quantum Engineering (PHELIQS) is a joint research unit of the CEA and the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). Organized into five teams, PHELIQS includes about 60 permanent staff members (researchers, teacher-researchers, technical and administrative personnel) and hosts around 35 PhD students and 15 postdoctoral researchers.

PHELIQS conducts fundamental research in the fields of nanophysics and condensed matter physics, mainly upstream of information and communication technologies. The research at PHELIQS aims in particular at understanding and controlling original physical effects, generally of quantum origin, that appear in solid-state systems of reduced dimensionality or nanometric size, as well as in materials with strong electronic correlations. The goal is to provide innovative solutions to major challenges in photonics and nanoelectronics, notably the development of components and systems for quantum information processing.

Main goal: development of germanium quantum bits using innovative nanofabrication techniques

Key activities
  • * Design and fabricate germanium spin-qubit devices based on an innovative vertical 3D grid architecture
  • * Develop and optimize advanced nanofabrication processes (etching and atomic-layer deposition) for the fabrication of quantum devices
  • * Experimentally characterize the devices at very low temperatures (dilution refrigerator) and evaluate their performance (coherence, charge noise, qubit control)
  • * Study interactions between qubits and compare the performance of the new 3D architecture with that of conventional planar architectures
  • * Contribute to the advancement of research through the analysis of results, collaboration with experimental and theoretical teams, and the publication of scientific papers
Requirements

Research Field Engineering Education Level Master Degree or equivalent

Skills/Qualifications

Level required: Master’s degree in physics, microelectronics, nanotechnology, or a related field, with a solid knowledge of semiconductor physics

Core competencies
  • * Experience in nanofabrication and quantum measurements
  • * Experience in cleanroom nanofabrication (lithography, deposition, thin-film processes) and/or in the characterization of nanodevices
  • * Strong interest in quantum technologies, semiconductor devices, and low-temperature experiments
  • * Scientific rigor, independence, curiosity, and the ability to quickly acquire new experimental skills
  • * Strong ability to work as part of a team in a multidisciplinary research environment, with a level of English sufficient for scientific communication and writing publications
