Université Grenoble Alpes invites applications for a PhD position within the COFUND PhD@Tec21 programme. The project focuses on linking local fault mechanics to seismic observables using laboratory faults and acoustic emission data.

Supervisors include Elsa Bayart and collaborators; the PhD lasts 36 months with a gross monthly salary of 2,650 EUR and a net salary between 2,050 and 2,150 EUR. 1 October 2027 start date.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in physics, geophysics or closely related field.
• Fluent in English (B2+).
• Experience in experimental work is required.
• Programming with Python/Matlab/C++ is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Join the MODI team to perform laboratory experiments on fault mechanics.
• Measure strain and displacement fields and record acoustic emissions.
• Analyze datasets to test models of seismic source parameters.
• Communicate results in English and participate in group activities.
