Responsibilities
- Receive and process prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and label medications for dispensing under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Ensure all prescriptions meet state and federal regulations before release.
- Enter prescription and patient data into the pharmacy management system accurately.
- Greet and assist patients courteously at the pharmacy counter or by phone.
- Answer basic questions regarding prescriptions, refills, and over-the-counter medications, referring clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Inventory Management
- Order, stock, and maintain an adequate supply of medications and pharmacy supplies.
- Check for expired or damaged medications and remove them from active stock.
- Help with controlled substance documentation and recordkeeping per DEA guidelines.
Administrative Support
- Manage insurance claim submissions and resolve billing issues.
- Assist with cash register operations and balance drawers when required.
- Support daily workflow, including prescription filing, logging, and reporting.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current on pharmacy practices.
- Work closely with pharmacists, other technicians, and healthcare staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Support team efficiency by prioritizing tasks during high-volume periods.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications – Pharmacy Technician
Although the qualifications below are preferred, Hoffman Drug is willing to train and pay for the licensure and certification for a strong candidate.
Certification
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Licensure
- Active state pharmacy technician license or registration (if required by state law).
Experience
- 1–3 years of pharmacy experience in a retail, hospital, or long-term care setting.
- Experience with prescription processing systems (e.g., PioneerRx, QS/1, McKesson, ScriptPro).
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, drug names, and dosage forms.
- Familiarity with insurance claim processing and prior authorization workflows.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to accuracy and detail in all tasks.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); completion of a pharmacy technician training program (preferred).
Technology
- Proficient in basic computer applications and pharmacy software systems.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Driver’s license and clean driving record required
- High school diploma or GED required; Strong preference for applicants with associate’s or bachelor’s degree
Compensation
$18 - $24 hourly
