Job summary

Intermountain Health is seeking a Patient Financial Advocate - Bilingual to provide financial counseling in Spanish where appropriate, assist with public benefits applications, and educate patients on ACA and payment options. The role supports in clinic, hospital, and call center settings, with a 40-hour week at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO.

The position requires strong communication skills, experience in healthcare revenue cycle or patient access, and eligibility for CAC/Colorado

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CAC (Montana) or Referral Partner (Colorado) certification within 3 months of hire.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet and email.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; able to work independently.
• Experience in healthcare revenue cycle or patient access or customer service.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to screen for internal and Public Benefit Programs; in person and remote.
• Complete applications for Public Benefit programs with required documents.
• Process requests for internal and external financial assistance programs.
• Financially clear patients for elective surgeries/services.
• Assist with co-pay assistance program applications.
• Provide general insurance education and ACA navigation.
• Set up and collect payments and payment plans.
• Submit assistance applications to external agencies and follow through.

Job Description:

A Patient Financial Advocate - Bilingual is responsible for providing financial counseling in Spanish when appropriate, to uninsured/ underinsured patients, by determining medical assistance eligibility for patients in clinic, hospital outpatient/inpatient, emergency settings, and in a call center environment. Patient Financial Advocates assist patients with submitting and/or processing documentation to complete applications for various medical assistance programs, such as: State/ Federal public benefits, ACA insurance availability, and internal/ external financial assistance programs. A Patient Financial Advocate will provide general insurance education, provide price quotes to potential patients in Spanish if appropriate, and assist with payments and payment arrangements.

Essential Functions

• Interviews patients and consumers, screening for available internal and Public Benefit Programs, applying for appropriate program; in person and remote.
• Completes applications for Public Benefit programs, submitting with required documents.
• Process and determine requests for internal and external financial assistance programs
• Financially clear patients for elective surgeries/services.
• Assists with co-pay assistance program application process.
• Provides general insurance education
• Provides Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance education and navigation.
• Point of service collections and establish payment plans.
• Completes and submits assistance applications to external Agencies, as appropriate, and follows through to determination.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Certified Application Counselor (CAC) Certification (Montana) or Referral Partner Certification (Colorado) within Three (3) months of hire
• No Verbal or Written Consultation or Corrective action in the previous 12 months
• Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, internet and email
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Experience in healthcare revenue cycle, patient access or other customer service role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual - Spanish and English
