Job summary

WOAH invites a motivated student to join the Observatory team at Headquarters in Paris for a six-month internship analyzing sources and pathways of disease outbreaks, using data science techniques and LLM-assisted text analysis.

Based in Paris, the intern will collate real-world evidence from WAHIS data, perform quantitative and qualitative analyses, and contribute to an Observatory briefing paper while exploring feasibility of monitoring indicators.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree (M1/M2) in a relevant field with quantitative components.
• Experience in epidemiological data analysis with R or Python.
• Familiarity with natural language processing or LLM-based text analysis is a plus.
• Knowledge of WAHIS or WOAH standards is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Select diseases and regions after assessing WAHIS notifications.
• Build a reproducible pipeline to extract data from notifications and PDFs.
• Aggregate sources and pathways by disease, species, region and time.
• Apply LLMs to classify sources and assess classification quality.
• Conduct literature review and targeted expert interviews.
