To qualify as a Operator I (GO) at Crystal River North, the incumbent must first have been qualified as a journeyman operator at either a combustion turbine combined cycle, coal, oil, trash recycle, nuclear, or natural gas power station. Within an 18‑month period, s/he will be responsible for successfully completing the FHOF Operator Development Program, which includes obtaining a Maintenance Progression, as defined by the Development Program, in the following maintenance fields: electrical, instrumentation and controls, and mechanical. Also, within the 18‑month period, under direct supervision and on a rotating shift schedule, the GO will be responsible for achieving minimal operations and required maintenance skills in the following areas; Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Operations, Wastewater Treatment (WWT) Operations, and all Station Laboratory duties. Failure to successfully complete the FHOF Operator Development Program may result in disqualification from the position. During this 18 month period, the GO will undergo training and job shadowing; s/he will perform, under the general guidance of a journeyman work assignments, such as board watch, conducting plant rounds, assessing plant equipment and systems for proper operation within prescribed parameters, and performing Progression Maintenance tasks.
High School diploma or GED equivalent is required, and 3 years directly related experience as a journeyman power station operator (solar, wind or hydro experience does not apply) required, or three years' experience in ancillary power operations in a military context.
Must achieve test‑recommended score on the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) MASS, at the I&C level, and the POSS tests.
An operator journeyman level skill set is required. Incumbent must be fully competent in power station operations; incumbent must also be well versed in the underlying theoretical applications of thermodynamics. Also required is a complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications (e.g., proper sampling, analysis, and related instrument calibrations).
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight‑rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
Must live within one (1) hour travel time of the plant.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must not be impaired by colorblindness.
Must be able to work rotating shifts to cover a 24‑hour, seven‑day‑a‑week operation, around rotating and energized equipment, outdoors and indoors, in hot and cold temperature extremes under limited supervision. Must be available for callouts and long working hours. Excellent analysis and decision‑making abilities required. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment.
