The UVA Library seeks a Metadata Systems Librarian for Non-Latin Script Resources in the Metadata and Discovery Services department. The role develops computational and semi-automated approaches to create and enhance bibliographic metadata for non‑Latin scripts, including Arabic, Indic, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, to support multilingual discovery.

You’ll collaborate with Library IT to design transliteration, translation, and normalization workflows, apply MARC21/RDA standards, and explore

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or relevant graduate degree.
• 4–9 years of post‑degree/professional experience.
• Experience with library metadata and descriptive cataloging standards (MARC, RDA).
• Experience with non‑Latin scripts and multilingual metadata.

Responsabilités

• Design and support algorithms and semi-automated tools for non‑Latin metadata.
• Develop metadata workflows for transliteration, translation, normalization, and romanization.
• Use Python to process, transform, and analyze metadata.
• Integrate machine-assisted metadata into MARC and non‑MARC schemas.
• Contribute to documentation of standards and workflows.
