Aerospacelab in Toulouse is seeking a Mechanism Engineer to design and validate mechanisms for satellites, including pointing systems and deployable structures.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, contribute from concept trade-offs through validation, and ensure reliability across life-cycle stages. The role offers a challenging environment with hands-on testing and cross-team collaboration in a fast-paced spaceTech setting.

Qualifications

• MSc in Electro-Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, 5+ years' electro-mechanical experience
• Experience in mechanism design; space experience preferred
• Ability to lead design completion autonomously and collaborate cross-team
• Good communication skills and proactive problem solving
• Fluency in English and proficiency with mechanical/electronic CAD tools

Role Overview

As a satellite manufacturer and operator, Aerospacelab develops a range of units, payloads and platforms, several of them requiring mechanisms with stringent requirements: smooth and extended lifetime for reaction wheels, lightness and accurate pointing for gimbals, compactness and stiffness for deployable booms and arms, reliability and strength for release mechanisms, low power and repeatability for actuators, compactness and reliability for SADA,... you name it! As mechanism engineer, you will join an efficient team that works on cutting-edge products from their inception to their final assembly in the satellite: our activities range from performing the concept trade-offs and the overall design studies to the validation of the product through extensive testing.

Key Activities

• Support or lead the development of mechanism systems at Aerospacelab (pointing systems, deployable structures, attitude control systems...)


• Support all aspects of the development: specification, design, integration, test, commissioning, mass manufacturing...


• Perform concept trade-off, carry out overall design studies and validate the product through extensive testing


• Support or lead a team of multi-disciplinary engineers working on mechanism project


• Support the other teams in fulfilling their duties: system engineering, project management, AIT, avionics, AOCS, procurement... Mechanisms can be found in most parts of the satellite!

Must have

• MSc degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field; 5y+ professional experience in Electro-mechanical Engineering functions


• Know-how / experience in mechanism design (non-space mechanism is fine), the more you know the better


• Demonstrated ability to work across the team and company to drive designs to completion in full autonomy


• Good communication skills


• Structured and proactive mind, you strive for clarity, make sure to address the right problem, and you address them proactively with simple and creative solutions


• Ability to learn quickly, capitalize on your knowledge and share it


• Fluency in English


• Proficiency with common industry mechanical and/or electronic design software

• Experience in space mechanism design and development
