A leading research organization in France is seeking a First Stage Researcher for a project focusing on voltage imaging of neuronal activity in mice. The ideal candidate will perform brain surgeries and analyze neuronal data using Matlab and Python. This role requires proficiency in optical recording methods and a background in neuroscience. The position is full-time and temporary, with a starting date of January 1, 2026.

The candidate will perform voltage imaging of neuronal activity in the hippocampus of mice navigating in a linear track, using a fiberscope developed in the laboratory. The fiberscope enables fast fluorescence confocal imaging, and is an evolution of the prototype described in Dussaux et al, Scientific Reports, 16262, 2018.
The candidate will also analyze the data recorded using existing Matlab and Pythons programs and will develop additional analysis programs.
The project will be carried out in the team of Laurent Bourdieu at IBENS. This team brings together physicists and neuroscientists working on the development of novel optical methods for imaging neuronal activity and on the study of coding mechanisms in the cortex and the hippocampus.
The project is a collaboration with the team of Michaël Zugaro (Collège de France).
