Electrify Video Partners is seeking a Junior Editor-in-Chief (Freelance) to join fern and lead editorial strategy, management, and storytelling for a fast-growing creator economy business. You will supervise writers, shape topics, and uphold journalistic standards while guiding the channel's strategic voice.

You will supervise editorial work, mentor writers, and drive topic development across channels, with remote collaboration and flexible hours in a rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in journalism, ideally in video journalism.
• Experience in podcasting or audio is also welcome.
• Outstanding storytelling instincts and the ability to turn a topic into a compelling story.
• Strong journalistic standards and solid sourcing skills.
• Organized work style, leadership ability, and strong communication with conflict sensitivity.
• English is your mother tongue.

Responsibilities

• Support and supervise a writer throughout the script development process.
• Help shape key ideas, structure, dramaturgy, and tone.
• Ensure journalistic standards and sourcing guidelines are met.
• Provide feedback and edit across multiple rounds.
• Collaborate with editorial team on stories and provide feedback.

About the role

We're looking for someone to join the editorial leadership of fern. Joining our team as (Junior) Editor-in-Chief means filling a role with real responsibility: strategy, management, editorial excellence, team leadership, developing topics, and maintaining quality. That's why we will test your skills as a journalist, writer, and as a manager. We want to make sure you can fill that role both professionally and personally.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and supervise a writer throughout the script development process.
• Help shape the key ideas, structure, dramaturgy, and tone.
• Make sure journalistic standards and sourcing guidelines are met.
• Give feedback and edit across multiple rounds.
• Work regularly with members of the editorial team on stories and provide feedback.
• Help shape and develop our editorial vision and give the channel a strategic voice.
• You are involved in the development of topics.

Skills and experience

• Several years of experience in journalism, ideally in video journalism.
• Experience in podcasting or audio is also welcome.
• Outstanding storytelling instincts - you understand how to turn a topic into a compelling story.
