Constellium invites you to join its R&D team in Grenoble (Voreppe) for an internship focused on optimizing aerospace aluminium alloys through microstructure engineering. You will work on dispersoids control, thermomechanical routes, and building a microstructure database under supervision of two R&D engineers.
The role requires metallurgy basics, literature synthesis, experimental work, and collaboration within a multicultural team, with proficiency in English and French.
Optimizing Aerospace Aluminium Alloys Through Microstructure Engineering
Constellium is a world leader in the development and manufacture of high value-added aluminum products and solutions for a wide range of markets and applications, focusing in particular on aerospace, automotive and packaging. Constellium also has nearly 12,000 employees worldwide. We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our operations and improving the life cycle footprint of aluminum throughout the value chain.
In our company, safety is essential, it is one of our core values without compromise. Our Research and Technology Center, C-TEC Constellium Technology Center, based in Grenoble (Voreppe - 38) employs about 240 people.
By joining our company, you will discover a multicultural company (over 20 nationalities) which is committed to diversity and the well-being of its employees.
Your mission : Optimize structure of 2000 series aluminium alloys through control of dispersoids and thermomechanical process route
Aluminium is everywhere - from airplanes to cars to can. But making it both lightweight and strong requires precise control over its internal structure. One of the key players is a group of tiny particles called dispersoids. Theirsize, distribution, andcompositioncan significantly impact the final mechanical properties by modifying recrystallization and strain localisation. The thermomechanical process during hot-rolling is also of importance to achieve best properties.
This internship will focus on 2xxx alloys widely used in aerospace industry. The study aims to explore at the lab scale different thermomechanical routes (homogenization and hot-rolling)and define impact on the formation and distribution of dispersoids, texture development and microstructure.
The goals are to understand how these different parameters influence the aluminium structure and to propose strategies to better control microstructural evolution and improve alloy performance.
The project will contain multiple streams :
The intern will work within the metallurgy team and will be supervised by two R&D engineers.
