Job summary

Mines Saint-Étienne, part of the Institut Mines-Télécom, invites an intern to work in soft electronics for flapping-wing drone applications. You will join the Microelectronics and Flexible Electronics Department to instrument a wing, develop a dedicated test bench, and acquire real-time data for visualization, storage and analysis.

The project focuses on integrating a strain gauge, validating sensor performance with optical measurements, and evaluating how instrumentation affects wing dynamics,

Qualifications

• Master and/or engineering student in engineering sciences, electronics and embedded systems, material science or related field.
• Basic knowledge of electronic design and circuitry would be highly appreciated.
• Autonomous, curious and passionate about technological innovation with a hands-on mindset.
• Strong interest in practical work and experimentation, with rigorous scientific approach.

Responsibilities

• Integrate a strain gauge on an X-Fly wing for a flapping-wing drone.
• Set up a test bench to enable wing flapping under controlled conditions.
• Acquire the gauge signal in real time and transmit to a computer for display and storage.
• Compare electrical measurements with optical measurements to calibrate the sensor.
• Assess the impact of the gauge on wing dynamics and instrument the wing without degrading performance.
