Cailabs, a fast-growing photonics company based in Rennes, is offering an internship to develop numerical simulations for the TILBA optoelectronic system. You will work under experienced researchers and PhDs on optical and signal processing challenges related to space communications.
The role focuses on Python-based simulations, optical modeling, and collaboration within a dynamic R&D team for industrial projects. The program runs in the first half of 2027 for 3–4 months.
Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.
Cailabs currently has more than 200 employees, including 41PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).
Laser communications represent the next generation of secure, high-speed space communications. Dedicated to free-space optical communications, the TILBA solution improves the reliability of satellite links, as well as naval, aeronautical (aircraft, drones) and terrestrial communications.
You will join the R&D team and work under the supervision of a PhD in Physics, R&D Engineer and expert in numerical simulations. The aim of this internship is to develop and improve optical and optoelectronic systems used in the TILBA solution through numerical simulations that accurately represent real-world components.
During this internship, you will apply your knowledge of Python programming, geometrical and wave optics, and optoelectronics, for example to model sensor noise effects. The tasks may be adapted according to your background and interests.
Your work will benefit the entire R&D department by helping address optical challenges in the space sector.
Your main objective will be to develop a numerical simulation of an optoelectronic system to improve our TILBA product range for space communications.
You will have the opportunity to apply and strengthen your scientific knowledge while gaining experience working as part of a team on concrete industrial projects.
The internship is available during the first half of 2027 for a duration of 3 to 4 months.
Finally, joining Cailabs means benefiting from an environment committed to supporting you in developing new skills.
