Job summary

Rodeo FX is seeking a Generalist TD to collaborate with the Pipeline department to build tools that streamline VFX production and help artists find technical solutions. You will create reusable tools, maintain workflows, and provide frontline support to artists to troubleshoot issues and enable efficient work.

The role involves collaborating with supervisors across specialties, documenting tools, and ensuring quality and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar position within the VFX or video-game industry.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, computer visualization, computer animation or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with Python scripting.
• Good knowledge of Houdini, Maya or Katana.
• Good understanding of Linux operating system.
• Strong debugging and development tests.
• Able to communicate solutions to issues clearly.
• Excellent sense of prioritization and respect of deadlines.

Job description

The Generalist TD works closely with the Pipeline department to develop tools and solutions to ensure that VFX projects run smoothly, and to help artists from various specialties find technical solutions to problems encountered.

Main responsabilites:

• Create verifiable, efficient and reusable tools using software development best practices;
• Develop tools to meet production demands, ensuring that they meet departmental standards, as requested by supervisors and/or department heads;
• Maintain a wide range of workflows and scripts ;
• Provide front-line support to artists, troubleshooting assets and plans, and help artists find solutions to general problems ;
• Work with supervisors and chefs from different specialties to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches;
• Create and communicate documentation on the tools developed and provide training for artists;
• Perform quality control on work before submitting it for review/approval, ensuring that all technical specifications are met, that user requirements are satisfied and that peer review scores are taken into account ;
• Keep project team and/or TD leader informed of work progress, issues to be resolved, ramifications of problems encountered and recommend potential solutions;
• Ensure deadlines are met, informing the project team promptly if delays are expected.
