Job summary

Pelagon is seeking an Acoustic Researcher to lead the physics backbone of our multimodal acoustic model for autonomous maritime protection. You will work with AI Engineers to define features, representations, and data used to train the system.

You will design sensor geometries, validate ideas with real data, and push edge AI deployment for sea environments. Founding ownership and critical infrastructure protection are central to this role.

Qualifications

• Deep grounding in underwater acoustics, sonar, or related field; PhD or equivalent research.
• Strong command of statistical signal processing: detection, estimation, array processing.
• Fluent in Python (NumPy/SciPy) for modeling and analysis; comfortable with large datasets.
• Bonus: prior experience using machine learning on acoustic signals; naval/defense domain experience.

Responsibilities

• Model underwater sound propagation across realistic ocean environments to enable synthetic data generation.
• Characterize and classify acoustic signatures of surface and underwater targets; build ground-truth for training.
• Design and reason about sensor and array geometries—where to deploy to maximize information.
• Collaborate with AI Engineers on physics-constrained learning strategies and models.
