Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned AI/ML leader to design and build LLM-based systems for automating complex medical coding workflows. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle from research to production, ensuring secure data handling and regulatory awareness.

You will collaborate with the CTO and founding team in a lean startup environment, delivering production-ready AI features and rapid improvements based on user feedback.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of ML/AI production experience.
• Degree from a top-10 engineering school.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on with LLMs / NLP and generative AI products.
• Experience with prompt engineering, model evaluation, and fine-tuning.
• Ability to build production-ready AI systems and data pipelines.
• Experience with AWS/Azure, Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
• Security and privacy awareness for healthcare data.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop LLM-based systems to automate complex medical coding workflows
• Build and improve agentic workflows tailored to the operational constraints of healthcare facilities
• Define the AI/ML architecture and roadmap with the CTO
• Test and integrate the most relevant models, frameworks, and techniques available on the market
• Build pipelines to securely ingest and process healthcare data
• Connect AI systems to the applications used by hospital professionals
• Define robust methods for evaluating AI system performance
• Own the full lifecycle of AI features: research, prototyping, production, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Contribute to product decisions and rapidly turn user feedback into tangible improvements
• Work directly with the CTO and founding team in a lean tech team

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience working on Machine Learning / AI challenges in production environments
• Degree from a top-10 engineering school
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Hands-on experience with LLMs / NLP and building products powered by generative AI
• Experience with prompt engineering, model evaluation, and/or fine-tuning
• Ability to build production-ready AI systems, not just prototypes or notebooks
• Excellent understanding of backend systems, APIs, and data pipelines
• High level of autonomy and ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish
• Eager to work in a startup environment with rapid development cycles
• Experience with Hugging Face, LangChain, PyTorch, or similar tools
• Experience with TypeScript / Node.js / NestJS
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and modern data architectures
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure, Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes
• Experience with agentic systems or complex LLM workflows
• Experience handling sensitive data or working in a regulated environment, such as healthcare, finance, or insurance
• Understanding of security and privacy issues related to healthcare data
