Devoteam is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer for Industrial AI, based in Paris and deployed at industrial client sites across France. The role entails building data pipelines, integrations, and custom code, and working closely with on-site teams to turn field knowledge into structured data.

You will need Python/SQL, APIs, and experience with AI tooling, plus English and French language skills. Expect 2–3 days per week at client sites with a strong emphasis on measurable euro-driven business

Forward Deployed Engineer - Industrial AI

Location: Paris-based, deployed at industrial client sites, mostly in France · Contract: CDI, full-time · Level: FDE 1 (0 to 2 years) or FDE 2 (2 to 5 years) Compensation: €50,000 - €75,000 fixed base per year, depending on level, plus an annual bonus on team and individual objectives.

Industrial AI that delivers what it promises: measured in euros on the client's P&L, not in slides.

The FDE Company is Devoteam's Forward Deployed Engineering practice, built with OSS Ventures. We deploy vertical AI software in factories, warehouses and supply chains, and we stay until it produces measurable, recurring gains.

What you'll do

• Build and ship: configuration, integrations, data pipelines and the custom code no product ships with. You will write a lot of it, with AI coding tools.
• Go to the floor: sit with the planner and the operator, and turn what they know into structured data.
• Frame every scope as a business case: what it is worth in euros, how we measure it, when finance signs off.
• Run your part of the deployment like a professional: clear status every week, risks raised early.

Your profile

Hungry, high-slope, a builder. We care about what you can build today and what you can become in 18 months, not about your title or your degree.

Must-haves:

• You build. You have built working things with your own hands: a project, an app, a tool, an automation that runs and that someone uses. Python or equivalent, SQL, APIs. Early in your career? Show us the capacity: side projects, a hackathon, something you taught yourself. We will ask you to show your code and to build something live.
• You build with AI. You use Claude Code or a similar assistant every day, and you check what it writes.
• You decompose problems. Faced with something vague, you ask the right questions, form hypotheses and pick the cheapest test. It is the most tested skill in our process.
• You want the field, not the office. Factories are loud, data is dirty, stakeholders are skeptical, and you would rather be there.
• You can explain. You can make a technical point clear to a plant manager, and say "I don't know yet" without losing the room.
• English, and ideally French. Strong English is required; professional French is a plus.
• 2 to 3 days a week at client sites, mostly in France, occasionally abroad.

Nice-to-haves: industrial or supply-chain exposure, a quantitative backbone, frontend basics (React/TypeScript), evidence of ownership. An interest in the humanities (literature, philosophy, the arts) is welcome: this job is about people as much as machines.

Career path

FDE 1 → FDE 2 → Senior FDE → Lead FDE. Scope is earned by what your deployments do for clients, with formal reviews along the way.

Working conditions

You start with the FDE Academy: a paid three-week programme (one week of training in Paris, a real case in the field, a final pitch) leading to the FDE Foundation certification by Devoteam Academy and OSS Ventures. Paris base; during active deployments expect 40 to 60 % of your time at client sites. Health cover, meal vouchers [TBC - relocation allowance if moving to Paris].

Our process

1. A 30-minute call with our recruiter.
2. A 60-minute interview: you show something you built and change it live, then you build a small thing with an AI assistant, and we work through a messy plant problem together.
3. A meeting with the practice leadership.

This role is probably not for you if you want pure engineering with no client in the room, you need certainty about next month, you are more comfortable describing a solution than shipping one, or travel is a dealbreaker.
