Position Summary

The Environmental Technician will support an environmental cleanup project in the coastal North Carolina area. This role is field based and will focus on soil and water sampling, and restoring natural beach and dune areas. Work will be performed on a rotational schedule (two weeks on site, one week off) in coastal field conditions.

Essential Duties
  • Assist with sampling, excavation, removal, and handling of petroleum-contaminated soil and debris.
  • Support transportation and disposal activities for contaminated soil, water, and asbestos-containing materials.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely in a beach and dune environment.
  • Collect confirmatory soil and water samples under direction of site supervisors.
  • Support site restoration activities, including soil backfill and re-vegetation.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements, including OSHA HAZWOPER standards and USACE EM 385-1-1.
  • Complete daily logs and contribute to progress reporting as required.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience working on hazardous waste, environmental remediation, or construction cleanup projects.
  • Familiarity with handling and disposing of contaminated soils, water, and asbestos-containing materials.
  • Experience working for a federal contractor.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal environmental regulations.
  • Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow strict site protocols.
  • Ability to work as part of a team alongside government and contractor personnel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Other Requirements
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel to NC for duration of project.
  • Ability to gain access to military installations.
Work Environment
  • Regularly work outdoors in varying weather and coastal conditions.
  • Field-based role in a coastal environment with sand, dunes, and beach access.
  • Ability to travel to project site including long term overnight stays.
  • Driving required.
Physical Abilities
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Ability to walk, hike, wade, and work in outdoor environments including rugged and uneven water/terrain, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (e.g., rain, heat, cold).
  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time.
