Environmental Health and Safety Technician – Torrington, CT
We’re seeking a result-focused, innovative, self-driven, and well-qualified individual to join our talented team as our Environmental Health and Safety Technician.
Responsibilities
- Manage compliance for assigned environmental, health, and safety programs by developing and maintaining procedures, executing inspections, and ensuring alignment to US EPA, CT DEEP, and OSHA mandates with audit-ready records.
- Plan and conduct environmental inspections and program assessments by reviewing permits, stormwater and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, and annual reporting needs, and tracking corrective actions to closure.
- Develop and deliver environmental, health, and safety training for site employees, including 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification and periodic refreshers.
- Administer the site industrial hygiene monitoring and sampling plan, conducting air monitoring and multi‑media sampling to approved methods, interpreting results, and logging EHS data for compliance.
- Oversee hazardous‑waste management process to regulatory requirements per RCRA and transport rules, directing accumulation‑area controls, inspections, recordkeeping, vendor coordination, and employee training.
- Track, analyze, and report safety and environmental performance indicators by maintaining the incident system for incidents, near misses, and observations, conducting investigations, and verifying corrective and preventive actions.
- Recommend improvements to procedures that raise compliance and worker safety by analyzing inspection and sampling trends, proposing controlled updates, and submitting document revisions for review and approval.
- Manage and maintain compliance calendars, documentation, and inspection readiness by sustaining permit, training, and inspection schedules; ensuring files are current and complete; supporting agency and customer audits as the site point of contact.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in an EH&S consulting, chemical manufacturing, or industrial environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, earth or life science, industrial hygiene, toxicology, or a related field – or the equivalent.
- Current OSHA 40‑hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers and current RCRA/DOT/IATA/IMDG training.
- Experience using industrial hygiene equipment and monitoring & multi‑media sampling equipment.
- Good working knowledge of OSHA/ U.S. EPA regulations and NFPA standards.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks under minimal supervision and work independently; strong team‑player mentality.
- Adaptability to changing scenarios.
- Ability to travel up to 15% within North America.
