Description du poste

The Wyart lab at the Paris Brain Institute recruits a research support specialist (assistant-engineer) who will contribute to scientific projects as well as organizational and operational aspects of the laboratory. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the lab head and project managers and will bring his/her molecular biology expertise to advance our understanding of movement-related neuronal populations at molecular, circuit and behavioural levels, in health and disease, and across animal models. This position requires a strong drive to perform experimental work, versatility, autonomy, and an ease to engage scientifically with lab members. Rigor, organizational, and communication skills are an absolute must.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the assistant-engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Performing HCR/in situ/immunostaining/imaging on zebrafish, mouse and macaque samples
  • Developing cycles of HCR combined with expansion microscopy on the fish brain
  • Analyzing, presenting and reporting results in English during weekly discussions and lab meetings, in coordination with the manager
  • Ordering and archiving reagents and small equipments
  • Organizing and maintaining lab databases (plasmids, antibodies, HCR probes, ..)

Longer terms projects may involve:

  • CRISPR/Cas-based generation of zebrafish transgenic lines to target specific cell types and neuromodulation
  • Sample preparation for single-cell sequencing (involving mouse, zebrafish, humans)

On rare occasions, the candidate may have to come to the laboratory during the weekend when animal care requires it. The candidate will have to travel for seminars and conferences, in Paris and its suburbs, and, occasionally outside of France.

  • Biotechnology diploma (BTS/DUT) or a related degree in Biotechnologies or Genetic Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with wet laboratory experiences.
  • The role does not involve academic research skills. We are looking for candidates whose background is primarily oriented toward professional practice
KNOW-HOW
  • Previous experience with the zebrafish or mouse model will be considered a big plus
  • Junior candidates are welcome to apply if they can justify lab work experiences
KNOWLEDGE
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English (written and oral)
SOFT SKILLS
  • Passion for neurobiology
  • Strong drive to perform experiments
  • Excellent organizational skills and discipline
  • Ability work with diverse people and to simultaneously run several projects
  • Motivation to set up and troubleshoot novel experimental approaches
