Arturia in Grenoble invites an internship to study state-of-the-art methods for modeling Voltage Controlled Filters (VCF) in synthesizers. You will compare iterative solvers and machine learning approaches after analyzing the underlying ODEs and zero-delay feedback concepts.
The work will target the wave-digital domain and a case-study VCF, with 5–6 months on-site in Montbonnot-Saint-Martin. Master’s or final-year engineering students with DSP knowledge and Python/C++ skills are preferred.
Voltage controlled filters (VCF) are essential elements of any synthesizer. Their Virtual Analog
models often need to use zero delay feedback methods which can have a high computational cost. In this internship, you will be tasked with studying state-of-the-art methods for modeling Voltage Controlled Filters (VCF). After a deep study of the electrical circuit, several approaches will need to be tested. First, the use of iterative solvers to solve the ordinary differential equation (ODE) such as Newton-Raphson, Steffensen, Rosenbrock-wanner… A deep comparison between their accuracy and their performance will be expected. Previous work in our team showed that Machine learning methods could replace the use of iterative solvers, for instance in the wave digitaldomain. This work will need to be generalized to the case-study VCF of this internship, and compared to the iterative solvers results.
