Overview

As a Design and Construction Manager in GES, you are a customer-obsessed leader in the Amazon construction process. You play an integral part in implementing the facility network infrastructure including sortation centers, delivery stations, and supporting buildings. The construction projects include new builds, retrofits, and expansions. You perform detailed deep-dive reviews of budgets and schedules to identify and resolve discrepancies, including information in contractor bid packages. You partner with internal customers and external stakeholders to earn trust and deliver results. You ensure information is communicated to internal and external stakeholders in an effective and timely manner. This role combines construction, engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the implementation and management of Amazon's safety programs and standards with the project team.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ensure that the skills and competencies of contract labour are appropriate to the work.
• Operate independently in the assigned role and region; interact with leadership and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Comprehensive budget and schedule tracking and cashflow forecasting.
• Identify and solve factors that may impede a successful project hand-over while aiming for frugality and efficiency.
• Interface with local authorities (AHJ) to maintain regulatory compliance and seamless execution.
• Advise on the impact of changes in schedule, costs, and permitting.
• Maintain internal and external stakeholders up-to-date on pertinent information through written and oral communication.

A day in the life

Each day you act as a project owner in GES to ensure safe, on-time, and in-budget execution of Amazon construction projects. Daily tasks may include:

• Site management: coordinate with contractors on projected changes and project status.
• Ensure contractors are meeting contractual obligations.
• Promote sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions and Amazon's green building practices.
• Utilize Amazon information systems to record and update schedule, budget, and other key developments.
• Negotiate contract terms with vendors and drive partners to meet or exceed schedules and budgets.
• Participate in weekly Architect, Owner, and Contractor (AOC) meetings and provide input on root causes and corrective actions.
• Lead project execution calls.

Basic Qualifications

• A completed Bachelor\'s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a comparable field.
• Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, or in related construction disciplines.
• Project management experience from design through implementation and operation.
• Experience negotiating construction, procurement, and labour contracts.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or BIM, and scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in at least two construction disciplines (e.g., General Contracting, Owner's Representation, Commercial Development, Engineering & Design) and demonstrated ability to communicate project requirements to diverse audiences.
• Experience in facilities management and planning, design review, and project management/control of new structures and enhancements of existing facilities.
• Program management of concurrent projects.
• Project Management accreditation (PMP® or similar).
• French, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu language skills are considered a plus.
