Job summary

IRD Occitanie is offering a fixed-term role as a field engineer within the MOISA unit in Sainte-Clotilde, Réunion Island. You will design, implement, and manage data collection protocols for the OR-ALIM project, focusing on school catering and environmental impact data.

The position is 9 months, full-time, and fully funded, based in Réunion Island. You will join a seven-person team and collaborate with coordinators, a data manager, statisticians, and engineers.

Qualifications

• Data collection and conducting quantitative surveys (in-depth knowledge).
• Database management and descriptive statistics.
• Proficiency in collaborative tools (collaborative workspaces, online meeting calendars, mailing lists, etc.).
• Ability to describe technical food production pathways.
• Knowledge of environmental assessment through life cycle analysis.

Responsibilities

• Designing and planning the data collection protocol in line with the project objectives.
• Ensuring data collection: correspondence, follow-up, monitoring.
• Managing the database.
• Implementing and optimizing the entry of collected data.
• Checking the consistency, quality, and reliability of the collected data.
• Writing and updating data-related documentation.
• Conducting a review of existing data characterizing environmental impact of locally produced food through life cycle assessments.
• Exploring existing environmental impact indicator data (e.g., Agribalyse) and matching sources.
• Identifying missing data and sources to complete the database.
• Frequency of field missions: 3–4 days per week during survey rollout.
