Vibe, a Paris-based data platform, is seeking a seasoned Data Platform Engineer to own the data backbone: storage, batch compute, and the reporting stack.

You will scale petabytes of data and hundreds of thousands of messages per second, owning end-to-end pipelines and incident response, and partnering with Product, ML, and Finance.

This high-impact role includes ownership, equity, hybrid work in Paris, and a culture focused on delivering fast, reliable data at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production data platforms at real scale.
• Deep lakehouse experience with storage (Iceberg, Delta, or Hudi) and compute (Spark, DuckDB, or Trino).
• Production experience with a modern orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect).
• A concrete story about a pipeline or query you made measurably faster or cheaper, and why it worked.
• On-call and incident response experience, including alerts or runbooks you actually wrote.
• Ability to adapt your communication for different audiences.

Responsabilités

• Own tooling and services enabling data-hungry teams to store and access petabyte-scale event data.

• Build in-app reporting on an OLAP DB (ClickHouse).
• Orchestrate batch and real-time data movement across the stack.

• Responsible for on-call and incident response for owned systems.
• Translate ambiguous requests from Product, ML, and Finance into concrete deliverables.
• Set the technical contract with the Front team for the reporting UI.

About the Role

You'll join the Data Platform team, the group that owns Vibe's entire data backbone: storage, batch compute, and the reporting stack that shows advertisers their performance in real time. You'll report to the Engineering Manager of Data Platform. This role exists because Vibe's data volume has outgrown what most teams ever deal with: petabytes in storage and 500,000+ messages a second incoming, and it's still growing. That means the scaling problems here are real, not theoretical. You'll own systems end to end, from the first stakeholder conversation to the schema design to what happens when it breaks at 2am. And every dollar and millisecond you save shows up directly in the business, because data is the machinery Vibe runs on, not a support function bolted to the side.

What You'll Do

Platform & Storage

• As a member of the data platform team, you will own all the tooling and services allowing other data-hungry teams to:

• Store and access Vibe's petabyte-scale event data.

• Efficiently compute on top of it: Spark, DuckDB, Trino, and needed tools at real scale.

• Build the in-app reporting on an OLAP DB (ClickHouse).

• Orchestrate jobs and move data around all the stack using batch or real-time approaches.

Performance & Cost

• Identify and fix the pipelines or queries costing the most time or money

• Instrument systems so cost and latency regressions get caught before they become incidents

• Anticipate scaling limits before they turn into outages

Operations & Reliability

• Carry on-call for the systems you own and lead incident response when things break

• Write and maintain the alerts and runbooks that keep the team ahead of problems

• Build tooling, conventions, or data contracts that make the rest of the team faster

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Translate ambiguous requests from Product, ML, and Finance into concrete deliverables

• Push back on stakeholders when the right answer is \"not yet\" or \"not this way\"

• Set the technical contract with the Front team for the reporting UI they build on top of your work

What You Need

• 5+ years building and operating production data platforms at real scale, not analytics or BI-adjacent work

• Deep lakehouse experience from both a storage angle (Iceberg, Delta, or Hudi) and a compute angle (Spark, DuckDB, or Trino)

• Production experience with a modern orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect)

• A specific, explainable story about a pipeline or query you made measurably faster or cheaper, and why it worked

• On-call and incident response experience, including alerts or runbooks you actually wrote

• Comfort adapting your communication for different audiences

Nice to Haves

• Production experience with a column-store analytics engine (ClickHouse, Druid, Pinot, or BigQuery at serious scale)

• Experience with streaming

• Background in AdTech or programmatic advertising

• Experience with Dagster, Spark, DuckDB, Iceberg, ClickHouse Cloud
