Wello is hiring: Country Manager (France)

Location : France(hybrid)

Wello is a global fintech and web3 payment company building the next-generation blockchain infrastructure for compliant, efficient, and inclusive cross-border payments. By combining self-custodial wallets, stablecoin technology, and seamless fiat on / off-ramp integrations, we empower individuals and businesses to send, receive, and grow money globally — faster, cheaper, and with full transparency.

As we expand into the European market, we are seeking a highly capable and entrepreneurial country manager (grow to be CEO) to lead our French business and support Wello’s long-term strategic vision in the EU.

Key Responsibilities
1. Company Formation & Governance
  • Lead the legal establishment of Wello France, including incorporation, governance documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with internal and external legal counsel to ensure corporate compliance with local regulations.
2. Regulatory Licensing & Compliance Oversight
  • Oversee the application and acquisition of necessary licenses (e.g. CASP license, MiCa registration).
  • Serve as the main point of contact for French regulatory bodies (e.g. AMF, ACPR), assuming formal responsibility for ongoing compliance, governance standards, and supervisory interactions.
  • Ensure local adherence to AML / CFT policies, GDPR requirements, and group-level compliance frameworks.
3. Banking and Payment Rail Integration
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local banks and payment service providers.
  • Lead the integration of SEPA, card payments, and other EU payment channels in collaboration with the product and operations teams.
4. Business Development & Market Growth
  • Identify strategic partnerships, particularly in cross-border remittance corridors (e.g. Europe–Africa, Europe-Middle east).
  • Support the commercial expansion of Wello in France and the broader EU market through B2B and B2C growth strategies.
Candidate Profile
  • Proven leadership experience in fintech, crypto, or regulated financial institutions, ideally having held a role recognized by a regulator (e.g. executive director, compliance officer, COO, or equivalent)
  • Excellent business development skills in Payment, Fintech related industry
  • Deep knowledge of EU financial regulatory environments, including France’s CASP, payment regime, crypto-assets and payment services regulations
  • Track record of building banking relationships and navigating complex compliance processes, including license applications, managing audits, responding to regulators, and implementing group-level compliance frameworks at the local level
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward execution, ownership, and leadership with the capacity to build and scale a regulated financial entity from the ground up, while assuming team leadership, governance, and regulatory compliance
  • Native in French and proficient in English
Regulatory Competencies

In accordance with the EU’s MiCA regulation and French regulatory standards, the

successful candidate must demonstrate
  • Proven integrity, independence of judgment, and the ability to uphold high ethical standards.
  • Adequate theoretical and practical experience in the financial or crypto-asset sector.
  • Strong understanding of AML / CFT, cybersecurity, internal governance, and the evolving regulatory landscape.
  • Ability to dedicate sufficient time and attention to the role, including participation in all governance activities.
  • A mindset of transparency, accountability, and resilience under regulatory scrutiny.
